This book is not what I was expecting but it's wonderful! It's set in a town that I believe is a fictional Sault Ste. Marie in the Michigan Upper Peninsula. It's set in the late 30s and written from the POV of an intelligent eight year old boy. It makes me think of those Christmas villages people add to every year, like you're opening the doors to all these houses and spying on their inhabitants, observing their behaviors and interactions.

AlaMich But all from a child's perspective, so he doesn't completely understand this world of adults, but the reader does. So it's a tableau really, without a plot, where there is gossip, judgments, affairs, family squabbles, etc. #summerread #michiganlove (edited) 7y

AlaMich @LauraBeth It's such a great portrait of life in this place, at this time, drawn by a sensitive, smart, observant boy. 7y
