Nowhere Better Than Here | Sarah Guillory
post image

I thought about this prompt for a bit and decided on this book. Jillian lives in a small coastal Louisiana town that is slowly disappearing due to rising water. After another storm, the school is closed due to flood damage and the bridge into town is condemned. As she fights for her town and learns more about its history, she also learns how much of it has already disappeared under water.

Wayward Creatures | Lorentz, Dayna
post image

Happy Earth Day! Let's share #middlegrademonday books about the #environment today!

Wayward Creatures is a sweet story of friendship that happens when the main character is sentenced to restorative justice work in a park after starting a forest fire near his home.

What others have you read that fit the category???

sblbooks I haven't read anything in this category, but Wildoak is on my TBR. 5d
Karisimo I really liked Wildoak too! 4d
Karisimo Wild oak has some similarities to Wayward creatures in that both have kids that befriend a wild animal 4d

War Horse | Michael Morpurgo
post image

This is an amazing book narrated by a horse named Joey during WWI. Joey does different jobs and ends up traveling a lot during the course of the war. It touches on some hard topics and has some truly sad scenes, but it also has a happy ending.

The Lost Library | Wendy Mass, Rebecca Stead
post image

This cute story about a town that lost its library to a fire is told by alternating narrators including a cat. There is a mystery to be solved, but also deals with guilt and regret with a happy ending. It's a gem of a book written by two MG masters!

Happy #middlegrademonday everyone!

Alabama Moon | Watt Key
post image

Today I immediately thought to share Alabama Moon as a book with moon in the title, but of course it‘s currently checked out from my class library. Watt Key‘s books are favorites with several of my rural JH students. I gathered a few other titles to share as well.

I‘m in the middle of two very appropriate titles for today‘s eclipse and #MiddleGradeMonday (although Lunar New Year Love Story is YA rather than MG). The bottom left photo is on my porch: the peak of the eclipse here in Southern California, seen via shadows through our rose trellis. The bottom right photo was taken by my nephew, in the path of totality in southeastern Indiana!

Karisimo Thanks for the tag! And great minds think alike 😉 3w

In honor of the eclipse crossing the US today, let's share MG books with SUN or MOON in the title!

My pick is a story of an abandoned girl, named Luna, rescued by a witch. When she is accidentally fed moonlight instead of starlight, she gains magical abilities. Just as she's learning to handle this power, she is needed to save the ones she loves. This story has the feel of a fairytale with lovable characters!
