Wow—for as much as I didn‘t love the first book in the #FrankieElkinSeries, I sure did love this second one! Impulsively, nomadic citizen finder of missing persons, Frankie joins the search for Tim O‘Day who went into the WY Shoshone National Forest with his groomsmen for a bachelor party weekend & was the only one to not make it out, despite being the most experienced outdoorsman. 5 years later, they‘re hoping the SAR dog Daisy can bring closure.

I really liked Celine, though not as much as other Heller titles. I enjoyed the relationship between Celine and her husband, Pete 😊

NatalieR I agree with you. I liked Celine a lot more than I thought I was going to. (edited) 1mo
Pedrocamacho @NatalieR 👍 BTW, Natalie, I think that I‘ve almost read all of the Heller books. Any recommendations to help fill that void? 1mo
NatalieR @Pedrocamacho Oh gosh, that‘s a tough void to fill. Let me think on it and I‘ll come back with some recommendations. 😉🤓 1mo

Brian Panowich (a bit dark and gritty) I hope this helps. Enjoy your next read, whatever it may be!

I tried reading this in two different formats, and I think it‘s time to admit it‘s just not for me. This “thriller” has two first person narrators who are not particularly likable and, even worse, not particularly interesting. Any would be thrills get lost in Nina and Christian woodenly delivering unnecessarily drawn out details of a crime that seems to be created by a series of bad decisions made by them and their respective spouses. 🥱 Next!

I'm a fan of Mary Kubica's writing style—she dives deep into each character‘s psyche and weaves their stories with precision. Her plots twist unexpectedly, always keeping you on edge. In this one, two close couples quietly envy each other‘s marriages. But when one husband vanishes, secrets begin to unravel, and the illusion of perfection shatters in a chilling game of truth ,deception, and unwanted revelation. 😱😱

Some of the stories peaked my interest more than others, but with as many as there were, it‘s hard to remember them when a short time was spent on many (as opposed to the bulk of the book on Jacob‘s case). The book also highlighted differences in the types of searches, for how long they last, etc, depending on where a person goes missing; much of that comes down to cost. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin It included stats and went into a few various “oddball” theories like Bigfoot and UFOs (Jacob‘s father Randy insisted on following any and all leads, no matter how “out there”). 5mo

This was good. I figured out the twists, didn‘t make it less interesting. I liked how it played out. The writing was good. I‘ve enjoyed all of the Kubica that I‘ve read so far.

Sometimes when you look at a photo of someone that is ‘missing‘, you just know they‘re gone. Something within you knows it. I had this feeling when seeing Jacob Grey‘s photo in the beginning of this book. The book largely focuses on his disappearance, but mentions other missing people throughout the chapters. The author spent a lot of time with different people, and mentions that there is a belief that the paranormal or the supernatural ⬇️

We know that some people disappear on purpose to create a new life; some just don‘t want to be found for various reasons; some slip into cults and either don‘t want to leave or cannot leave; some just have a mishap in the wild, some are killed by animals, and some end their lives. However, I think the sad truth is that most of the missing are in fact, murdered. We all hope not to experience an⬇️ 7mo
