Eye to Eye: Intimate Encounters with the Animal World | Frans Lanting, Christine K. Eckstrom

Pickpick

I spent part of yesterday perusing this big photography book. Most of it is great, obviously it focuses on animal eyes, with lots of close ups. There were quite a few very blurry photos that may have been included to impress on the reader how difficult animals are as models, but I think they could have been left out. Favorite shot: a bonobo who seems to be doing yoga 😁.

This is such a cool book. It‘s HUGE and it combines my new(ish) found love of Nature Poetry and my long time love of Nature Photography. When I bought this, I had no idea I‘d used the book to get suggestions last spring.

The hubby and I are watching the PBS shows on The Photo Ark project this morning. There is also a companion book (pictured). This guy has spent years photographing the world's rarest animals before they disappear. He goes to great lengths to shoot them in front of a white or black background so he can eliminate distractions and really show off the beauty of the animals. Highly recommended based on the TV shows! 🐯🐼🐦🐊🐙🐌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

So having referenced this book a couple times for my own photography, I decided to borrow it from the library.
