Neuroscientist Gregory Berns discusses his work with dogs to allow fMRI scanning of volunteer, awake dogs. Not only does he clearly love them, but the studies and findings are really interesting. He also extends out his research and discussions to dolphins, sea lions, and thylacines (Tasmanian tiger). Bindi says it‘s very good, but is concerned too many of her secrets are being given away.

Hooked_on_books @squirrelbrain She did not want to look at me for the picture! When I saw her expression, I knew I had to say something about it. 😆 1mo

Back to non-fiction for a bit

When we talk about memories being true or false, we are fundamentally mischaracterizing how memory works. I like to think of memory as less like a photograph and more like a painting.

[painting is by my friend Gillian Willans]

CatLass007 Gillian is very talented! 7mo
Lindy @CatLass007 I love her work too 7mo
CatLass007 Remember when people used to (maybe they still do) plastic covers over their upholstered furniture? That‘s kind of what I see when I look at this painting. Maybe it‘s just my imagination. 7mo
Lindy @CatLass007 It‘s a painting of a room from her childhood, so there might be a plastic cover involved. My grandma kept a plastic cover on her couch and also over the beautiful crocheted tablecloth on her table. 7mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The information in this book didn‘t really surprise me, but it was affirming and inspiring. I enjoyed learning about the science and research and feel newly energized to prioritize the arts and aesthetics in my family‘s life. ⬇️

ICantImReading It reminded me a bit of “Life in Five Senses” by Gretchen Rubin; I think those books would pair nicely together. It also made me think about how America has been suffering a youth mental health crisis and wonder at the correlation to removing arts education from many schools.🎧 8mo
youneverarrived Sounds really interesting! 8mo
ICantImReading @youneverarrived yes, a lot to think about with this one! 🙂 8mo

5 ⭐️ reading content, 4 ⭐️ reading experience. Very heavy research-based work of non-fiction but mindblowing. PSA to incorporate 20 minutes of art into your day, every day! It‘s our way through trauma, our map to the subconscious, our portal to the divine. Obviously, I didn‘t need much convincing, but I‘m inspired to have the reminder that art is an essential, valuable crux of our humanity and spiritual well-being.
