pp. 112-113: '[The American people] have been persuaded to accept token victories as indicative of genuine and satisfactory progress.... ["Tokenism"] is a pallative which relieves emotional distress, but leaves the disease and its ravages unaffected. It tends to demobilize and relax the militant spirit which alone drives us forward to real change.'

⭐️⭐️💫 There is some good information here and I‘m sure it would benefit me to learn and use it. I found the presentation really smug, though. The author seemed to only use examples where he got it right and others got it wrong. If I understood correctly, he thinks that any compliment or appreciation that doesn‘t follow his format is judgmental and manipulative. I‘m sure he‘d say this is my unmet needs talking, but it bothered me.

And yet, in a nation which has a gross national product of 750 billion dollars a year [in 1966], it is morally right to insist that every person has a decent house, an adequate education and enough money to provide basic necessities for one's family.'
