This has a completely different plot and story even though it uses The Headless Horsemen motif - don‘t go into this thinking it will be a retelling.

I don‘t think this was Armstrong‘s best book & not that much of a retelling of Sleepy Hollow, but it was entertaining & a good blend of mystery/thriller & paranormal. Due to her grandfather‘s will Samantha (Sam) must stay in her family‘s cabin (where her father killed a boy & took his own life) for a month to inherit the money she needs to take care of her ailing from dementia mother. Local lore & legend of a headless horseman & the ⬇️

Cleaning up my Kindle and read this Victoria Schwab in a single afternoon. Just a fast paced dystopian with monsters - reminded me a little bit of Arcane (not so complex though) or Naomi Novik‘s Scholomance series. Definitely my wheelhouse.
I decided to go straight from THE SHADOW QUEEN to SHALADOR‘S LADY so I didn‘t lose momentum like I did the last time, when I had to wait for the second book‘s release. Alas, I had trouble sitting down with it while I was sick, but I‘m hard into it now. Hopefully I can finish it tonight, by treelight, with some assistance from this bright little decoration.
