I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

I really really disliked this book, so I'm glad it at least filled a prompt!

Little rich kids and their hateful family gather on a private island and *waves hands* twisty blahblah I really don't care because the only likeable characters are the dogs.

rubyslippersreads The poor dogs! 6h
Ruthiella I hated that book too . 😅 5h
Lauredhel @julieclair a LOT of people love it and that's fine too! I think it probably works best as a teen's first twisty book. 4h
Lauredhel @rubyslippersreads yes I think that's part of why I hated it so much. Didn't find a single person who content-noted that even under a spoiler warning. 4h
Lauredhel Can I just also say that another thing I really hated is that the author repeatedly attempted to nod to class differences and the fact that the staff are people too, which I THOUGHT was leading up to at least one of these faceless island staff becoming a real character in the book? But no. 4h
Lauredhel Even the map of the island goes out of its way to have a separate Staff Dock and Family Dock. Does this matter or come up in the book? It does not. 4h

Mehso-so

Frances's husband is working in Saudi Arabia as an architect in the 1980s. Joining him, she is Isolated by the strictures placed on women and the lack of anything in common with other expat wives, she descends into paranoia - but perhaps they really are out to get her.

Beautifully descriptive writing but I didn't feel engaged apart from a few chuckles at the start as I recognised a few situations and characters from living abroad in the 1980s.

Hear my top read so far for 2025. Am I being a little biased with Lights Out? Yes, yes I am. And I‘m OK with this. That book had me rolling I was laughing so hard. Sometimes that‘s what you really need.

Giggles aplenty. 😁
Highlights from this volume include:
Woman huffing kitty cat, then adopting/absconding with the one in the cat cafe that reminds her of her husband
Medical professional critiquing the drama set up by Tatsu and Miku to entertain a kid in the hospital
Of COURSE, the continuing adventures surrounding a retired mob boss and his darling dog Pinky
Competitive haiku with the adorable father-in-law along for the ride

Slow reading month due to teaching an intense summer course. I anticipate July being much better!

This was a super cute romance with some spice!

First off, I loved that it was dual POVs. I will never not be a fan of them in romance novels. I always love seeing how and when the characters start to fall for one another through their POVs.

I loved all the characters. The leads, Piper and James, were both so likable and sweet. They made a great couple.
