It seems odd to be reading about ghosts on such a sunny, spring-like day!

A wonderful anthology of short ghost stories from England, all allegedly true, ranging in time from the 8th century to the 20th. Some are direct quotes while others are retold.
Though I am a sceptic, while reading through this lively collection I found myself mistaking ordinary objects in the dark for shadowy, otherworldly figures. I can only attribute that effect to the vivid nature of the accounts selected by Ackroyd. A perfect October read.
If you're looking for some good ghost stories this season, I've got the book for you.
@TheBookKeepers I've just ordered a replacement book for my #justabookswap as the first one I ordered still hasn't turned up! This one is going straight to my match so I'm going to reveal myself now.
@shanaqui I've taken a risk with the genre - it's not one of your favourites but is sort of linked to your dissertation topic (hence the tagged book!)
Seminar preparation in PJs. I love my job. 🤣
I can‘t wait to read this one! I love the Tudor time period.
Day 16 - #titlestartswithat #septinbooks18 #tudors #peterackroyd
I've struggled to read previous books by Ackroyd, this one was okay although I'm not at all impressed with the ending. I'm not planning to read any more Peter Ackroyd books
A decent retelling of Thomas Malory's La Morte D'Arthur. If you'd like to read the Arthurian legends but are put off by archaic language, this captures the spirit and utter bizarreness of the original text. Expect magic, people doing things for weird reasons or no reason at all and characters popping in and out randomly. #mounttbrreadathon #thepastisaforeigncountry
A nice pile from my favorite second hand book shop in The Netherlands. (The English bookshop in Bredevoort). Such a beautiful sight! Where should I start?
