The Fire Next Time | James Baldwin
post image

These essays and letters delve into Baldwin's experiences with and thoughts about race, racism, white apathy, and religion. Although I am not religious, so the religious content didn't resonate with me, I enjoyed reading what Baldwin had to say. His words are thought provoking and his experiences continue to be relevant today. #BLM #LGBTQAuthors #POCAuthors #BlackVoices

Pickpick

This was a very fun read. The characters were interesting, & the combination of internal and external conflict throughout the book was well executed. If you're looking for identity exploration, navigating complex social structures of high school, romance, or teen drama, give this a read!
Content warnings for familial abandonment & transphobic bullying.

Austin shares vivid experiences, feelings, and examples throughout this book. She makes powerful statements about equality, race and racism, and privledge. I skimmed a few sections where she spoke to a more Christian religious sentiment because her religion is very meaningful to her. #pocauthors #blm

I really enjoyed this book. It's an excellent middlegrade read about a boy trying to find something he can be the best at. Along the way, he deals with friendship, self-esteem, anxiety, racism, bullying, trying not to be outed as gay, and exploring his family's Indian roots. Highly recommend! #lgbtq #lgbtqauthors #pocauthors #india #middleschool

George set out to write a memoir about his life so that LGBTQ+ teens and young adults, especially people of color, would have his experience without living the same experiences. He wants to increase LGBTQ+ conversations and visibility for the safety and psychological well-being of queer people and people of color. This is an excellent memoir and I greatly enjoyed it. #bipocauthors #lgbtqauthors #memoir #nonfiction #lgbtq #pocauthors #blackvoices
