Mrs. Braithwaite and her reluctant sidekick Mr. Norris are not your typical WWII novel heroes. She is rather unpleasant and even he would admit that he is overly timid. This makes their unlikely partnership and efforts to find Betty, Mrs. Braithwaite‘s missing daughter, all the more refreshing and fun. I thought I was going to get the usual historical mystery and loved that I got something a little different.

This was an interesting read about Kim Philby, who was spying for the Soviets the entire time he rose through the ranks of Cold War era MI6. He even managed to talk his way out of it when he first fell under suspicion. Something about the audio did make my mind drift away from time to time, but I don‘t know if that was just me.

This is a gripping, fast-paced thriller that blends international intrigue with sharp, intelligent storytelling. The plot is tightly woven, filled with suspense, political tension, and unexpected twists that keep the pages turning. With elegant prose and a strong sense of place, the novel stands out as a smart and entertaining entry in the spy-thriller genre.

Finished in November. Can‘t remember many details but it was a light, fun read. I think I saw other posts on Litsy about the series. Which I‘m always looking for something fun to read at night (I try to read NF during the day & any reading at night I try to keep to fiction). If you‘re a fan of the Evie Dunmore series this pretty similar.

ChaoticMissAdventures I have enjoyed this series, she has another called Ladies in Hating that was more Gothic but just as fun! 1w

From "The Christmas I Stole a Viscount" - a free holiday novella if you sign up for Vasti's newsletter. I loved the tagged book and from the first line of this one, I think it's also going to be a hoot!

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

I enjoyed this novel about Sadie, an undercover agent infiltrating a commune in France. The strong writing & Sadie‘s wry voice & cynical humour pulled me along, but Bruno‘s emails about anthropology dragged. They felt like essays only loosely connected to the story. I liked Sadie‘s dark, opinionated humour & the thought-provoking ideas about corporate espionage. Too meandering for a spy novel & the ending was contrived & unsatisfying.
