Oh Sy-on boy... Kid just can't catch a break and he's trying so hard to get some recognition and some time and love from his dad, which from earlier volumes hinted that he hadn't had in some time so it was nice how much of this volume was Damian.

I love that the comedy is still there even with the other chapters focusing on Bond, Yuri, and Yor even , as we get to see some behind the scenes of his work filled days.

The engineer hadn't ridden the rails hobo-style since his getaway from the massacre in D.C. more than a year ago.

An excellent way to spent the day. Perhaps this will be my year of spycraft? I could see it.

Ruthiella Ooh! What other authors or books would you include? 3d
majkia I've been on a Spy kick too. 3d
quietjenn @Ruthiella I have a lot of Helen Macinnes on my Kindle and have read very little Le Carre, so would probably start with those and go from there? Very open to suggestions though, if you recs. I am not well-read in the genre at all, but quite enjoy them! 1d
Ruthiella @quietjenn I‘m not well read in the genre either, which is why I asked! 😂 I did read a lot of Le Carre in the ‘90s and James Bond novels in the ‘80s, but that is it, really. 1d
quietjenn I may do a little research and will keep you posted! 1d

A Murder of Quality is a British spy novel by John le Carré. The narrative unfolds through multiple perspectives, primarily focusing on the investigation into the murder of Stella Rode at a prestigious English boarding school, Carne. Suspicion initially falls on her husband, but the investigation reveals a complex web of secrets and relationships within the school's faculty and community...

So, I was a little insulted when handed this with the words, “Mom, this book is so you! It‘s about old lady assassins. You‘ll love it.” I don‘t feel a certain age. But it is really good, and I did love it. “Because she doesn't apologize for anything. She had a rotten start in life, but she's made the best of it. She lives on her own terms. She knows who she is and what she wants, and she does what she is good at. And she has a good time doing it."

TheKidUpstairs This book was so much fun. I hope they adapt it, it would make a great movie! There is a sequel coming out in 2025 :) 4d

This was a good start to a new-to-me historical mystery series. I don't usually read books set in WWII, and the war plays a significant role, but I liked the characters enough to continue the series. Ellie is delightful and I love the way she plays off Major Ramsey. The audiobook narrator does a good job, as well.

My #12Booksof2024 for July is a gorgeous cynical thriller set in postwar Germany, with a villain who would be right at home in our current crop of "populist" hatemongers. Thrilling, thoughtful, worrying.

@Andrew65

Andrew65 I enjoyed this, if that is the right word! 4d

A work of historical fiction written from the perspective of a communist spy working with the South at the time of the fall of Saigon. Traverses Vietnam, America and Philippines. The protagonist‘s confession and enlightenment under torture thereafter form the crux of the novel. The writing is superb but the story isn‘t as engaging as one would have liked.
