My in-laws from Baltimore are asking: Where‘s the sauerkraut, hon? For proper pronunciation, you‘ll have to catch me in person. 😉

I‘ve had 49/73 items that are actually on the list. Here are some of my favorites.
1. Mashed potatoes
2. Roasted acorn squash
3. Glazed carrots
No thank you to giblets!

Here‘s the link if you want to take the survey: https://shorturl.at/RSOqi

dabbe Now I want to know how to properly say it! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing! 💛🤎🧡 1mo

I like this author‘s attitude to canning—that you don‘t need massive amounts of sugar, basically. And she has a more efficient way of dealing with the jars and lids than I‘ve seen before. There are lots of interesting recipes in this book, both basic and more unusual, plus recipes for ways to use those preserved foods, which I appreciate even though almost none of those recipes are relevant to me.

Tamra Yes, the amount of sugar is off putting in so many traditional canning recipes! I especially don‘t like sugar in anything pickled or relishes/salsas. 1y
SamAnne I love this book! Love the less sugar recipes. Im not a bread and butter pickle fan usually, but love the recipe in this book. 1y

Yesterday was a day-long advanced screening of November, so I made apricot jam because it tastes like sunshine in a jar.

Recipe is from the tagged book. It's great in that it calls for old-fashioned dried apricots, rather than wildly expensive fresh ones.

Soubhiville Oh yum! Now I want some, lol. 1y

Back at it again with the Ball Bible. 😁 This time it‘s pickled grape tomatoes. I haven‘t tried them yet. 🤞🏾

My first attempt at canning - strawberry jam! I‘m crossing my fingers it sets. It is a low sugar version (fruitier taste) and I‘ve heard they are looser jams. 🤞🏾 I followed the instructions in the Blue Bible, except I forgot to debubble. 😬

ravenlee I had a batch of strawberry jam that never set (years ago, I‘ve only done it a couple times), and I threw them in the freezer and had lovely waffle toppings for months. I hope yours works, either way! 5y
Tamra @ravenlee yes, I figure at the very least we‘ll have strawberry sauce! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage You should be fine even without the debubble. Fingers crossed!! 5y

Leftcoastzen That‘s a lot of work , I used to can with my grandma, never bold enough to do it on my own!👏 5y
jewright Did it sheet? I don‘t know if the canning books talk about it, but sheeting is the key. 5y
SamAnne Worse case, you can always use it as syrup! Canning becomes second nature. It is a good audio book activity! 5y
Cathythoughts Nice work 👍🏻looks great. Strawberry jam ❤️😋 5y
Tamra @jewright yes, I believe it did. I tested it on a cold plate. 😊 5y
Tamra @SamAnne yes, indeed! 5y
Tamra @Leftcoastzen I think it takes a bit of practice, like anything. But it‘s fun to have a challenge by choice. 🙂 5y
Tamra @Cathythoughts thank you! It‘s quite tasty. Next up something with rhubarb. I saw a recipe with rhubarb and orange juice. 5y
Tamra @BarbaraTheBibliophage the leftover jam I put in the fridge is fine texture wise and very tasty. 😋 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Tamra Woo hoo!! My parents did a lot of pressure cooker canning (in the 70s) but always kicked me out of the kitchen for safety. I taught myself with that book several years ago. So I‘m proof it can be done—and now so are you! (edited) 5y
Tamra @BarbaraTheBibliophage the 70s....fondu, pressure canning, Electric Company, bell bottoms! 😂 The music was fantastic. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Tamra Platform shoes!! And yes, the music ... so fun! 5y

I made summer berries jam!
(No sooner were the lids on than anxiety-mind piped up to tell me I probably did something wrong and will end up poisoning everyone. 😩)

Quirkybookworm You used the wrong lids 6y
Cathythoughts They look fab & will be delicious... lose the fear. They will be lovely 6y
JazzFeathers Oh, come on. It's going to be lovely. It certainly looks like. And if in doubt, eat it as soon as possible! 6y

This is the part where I‘m glad I don‘t have a hubby because he‘ll say I already have one! The one one the left, I bought it in 2009. I used it constantly where there‘s a torn area from wear and tear from my thumb. Now, on the right, it‘s same thing, just updated version with a gorgeous cover. The reason reason why I bought the new one? Cause it‘s to sit there pretty...

FerFer Book lover logic! I‘ve done the same! 😊 6y
