Back at it again with the Ball Bible. 😁 This time it‘s pickled grape tomatoes. I haven‘t tried them yet. 🤞🏾

My first attempt at canning - strawberry jam! I‘m crossing my fingers it sets. It is a low sugar version (fruitier taste) and I‘ve heard they are looser jams. 🤞🏾 I followed the instructions in the Blue Bible, except I forgot to debubble. 😬
This is the part where I‘m glad I don‘t have a hubby because he‘ll say I already have one! The one one the left, I bought it in 2009. I used it constantly where there‘s a torn area from wear and tear from my thumb. Now, on the right, it‘s same thing, just updated version with a gorgeous cover. The reason reason why I bought the new one? Cause it‘s to sit there pretty...
Am done for the day! Strawberry syrup and apricot preserves. BBQ dinner with family. Will do apricot butter tomorrow after work. Happy 4th, Littens! ❤️❤️
Evening reading, in preparation for a weekend of cooking and putting up food for the fall.
#UniqueFact #2: I taught myself (using a book not YouTube!) how to can a few years ago. I remember my parents canning the garden harvest every year, and wanted to learn. Today I made ketchup. It's so much tastier than store bought, but it sure is time-consuming! #augustphotochallenge #augustofpages
Bounty from Week 10 of the CSA
Older son & I went blackberry & raspberry picking this weekend. Was too busy making jam, triple berry clafoutis & blackberry coffee cake to read much.
I recommend the Ball "Blue Book" to anyone just starting out making jam. You don't need specialized gear, just 2 large pots, a ladle, a sturdy pair of tongs & SOMETHING to keep the jars off the bottom of the pot (a clean wash cloth works)
This is my absolute go-to book for canning! Nothing better. Headed to my DIL's today to make pickles. Her first time! 😎
