Day 23 of the #RiotGrams challenge: book you've owned longest! I don't own a lot of old books, and the ones I do have are packed away. But I do have a second copy of one of of them, which I acquired online (and used to belong to someone named Sarah, I'm guessing.) It's from 1977. The whole series is amazing and it's really due for a reprint. ❤️📚❤️

Bibliogeekery It's interesting about the word queer. I identify as queer and in my queer community it is viewed as a term that is more inclusive than LGBTQ - no matter how many letters are added it seems to exclude someone! I quite love the reclamation of the term but also understand that not everyone feels that way and I completely support people using whatever terms feel most comfortable for them! ❤️🏳️‍🌈 7y

saguarosally @Bibliogeekery I've seen some of the reclamation of the word, but I guess I'm still old school enough where I still think of it as a slur. When I was recommending a group name of alphabet soup I was being cheeky but hey, it's inclusive. 😜 7y

bookishkai It took me a long time to embrace queer. I used to hate lesbian so I always referred to myself as gay. But the more the community discusses the nuances and degrees of sexuality and gender, the more queer appealed to me. It encompasses more of my identity without my having to explain the things I don't necessarily have words for: I could be grey-ace homo-romantic gender-meh, or I can be queer. And, I feel kind of radical reclaiming queer. (edited) 7y

Redjewel_7734 I think it's a lot in how it's used, of course. But if I had someone tell me they were uncomfortable with it, I wouldn't hesitate to ask what they prefer & use that around them. Ultimately, it's about respect. 7y

saguarosally @bookishkris I do see the need for a more inclusive word. I just don't know how much I personally like reclaiming words, and I'm pretty much the antithesis of radical. 7y
