I will say the casting of Desi queer cheerleader was genius. The acknowledgement of how profound and important that is can be seen in the book. I would loved a little bit more from Irene, but Scottie was the central character. I love how YA leads are more than just one type of person. pick7 out of 10. A queer remake of the 80s movie “she can‘t buy me love”, but with a modern look of how losing ones self in pride, grief, and denial can lead to losing everything. Fun story, very predictable. I will say the honesty towards the end of the book was refreshing. There are some 80s/90s references most people will love.

pickI finished this earlier today and really enjoyed it. It's a quick read and makes you think about the choices we make which may seem right, but if we are not being true to ourselves, they are ultimately wrong. Some of the characters lacked nuance, but for the purpose they served in the narrative, this worked. #queerstories
