7 out of 10. A queer remake of the 80s movie “she can‘t buy me love”, but with a modern look of how losing ones self in pride, grief, and denial can lead to losing everything. Fun story, very predictable. I will say the honesty towards the end of the book was refreshing. There are some 80s/90s references most people will love.
Dream casting for Irene: Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Scottie: Shannon Purser

I will say the casting of Desi queer cheerleader was genius. The acknowledgement of how profound and important that is can be seen in the book. I would have loved more from Irene, but Scottie was the central character. I love how YA leads are more than just one type of person. Having desi cheerleader is the representation I love seeing in YA novels. There is someone out there reading this book feeling seen. #queer #woc #desi #cheerleader

In the book She drives me Crazy it is in the perspective of a girl in her senior year of high school and she is on the girls basketball team her name is Scottie Zajac. At her high school girl basketball is not one of the most popular sports. They had a scrimmage agents their rivals Candlehawk she really hates that school because her ex-girlfriend goes there and they broke up pretty recently. she got in a car accident with her rival Irene Abraham.

got to love a random Libby hold! Just in time for Valentine‘s Day! I would like to submit for consideration for a live adaptation- Charithra Chandran (Brigerton) for the role of Irene. I think she could be brilliant. Let‘s hear your casting choices.

This book had all the elements of a YA romance I would love, but for some inexplicable reason never clicked for me, the characters in particular. It has two sporty teen lesbians, who are enemies, dealing with getting over their toxic exes, and who fake date. I just didn't care about them. I kept waiting for these girls to win me over but it never happened. I loved Quindlen's first book, so I'm genuinely puzzled about what didn't work for me.

Honestly I loved this book! I finished it a little while ago so the details are fuzzy but I must say, I always love a good enemies to lovers romance. I feel like I can definitely relate to the characters as well, like the stressed cheerleader who just wants her family to be proud of her.

Over all I would read it again and will pick up more from this author.

YA fake dating with incredibly well meaning but like super embarrassing parents. Fake dating because literally driving your classmate to school after a fender bender changes how so many people talk to you and why wouldn't you try to ride that high? Fake dating with a sleepover and only one bed. Fake dating but eek, who let these real feelings in?

4.5 ⭐ This Sapphic rom com retelling of the movie Can‘t Buy Me Love, is so much fun. Scottie is on the basketball team but is not doing well. She cannot get over her ex Tally. It has become a complete mental block that is taking away from every aspect of her life. After the demo game against her school rival, where Tally is now going, she runs her car in to the car of the Head Cheerleader Irene. The same head cheerleader who had Scottie‘s car

LibrarianRyan towed last year at a party for no reason. This starts off an enemies to lovers‘ adventure that keeps readers smiling throughout. Scottie offers Irene the money she needs to repair the car if she pretends to be her girlfriend for 4 months. Scottie has two main reasons for this offer, one to make Tally jealous, and two to make her basketball team play better. After all, don‘t all teams play better when they have a cheering section? 2y
LibrarianRyan While this book is quite typical for the genera, its written well and keeps the readers wanting to turn the page. This is a read in one sitting book. It‘s short and quick, but does not lack in emotion or problem management. Scottie has a dream family. They are so loyal and supportive in all things. Irene‘s parents are also supportive, but this book does a great job of showing how Irene does‘t always feel that support. 2y
LibrarianRyan I think it also handles Scottie‘s mental anguish over her breakup really well. Her family talks things over, her friends let her take the time and do the things she needs to do to find herself again. This is not an “issue” book, it is instead a book filled with events that feel true life. They fell real, and youth could see themselves and their friends as different characters living these lives.

LibrarianRyan One of the great things about this book is that the pop culture references are already dated so it keeps the book fresh. For example, Irene, actually says : is this a Can‘t Buy Me Love thing (classic Patrick Dempsey movie from the 80‘s). One of the main characters actually references the movie this book retells. The title come from the Fine Young Cannibals song of the same name, and Irene is called Regina George (from Mean Girls) more than once. 2y
LibrarianRyan It is all tongue in cheek, but it all works together seamlessly. Nothing feels pushed or too cheesy.

Overall this book was a joy to read. If you are looking for more Sapphic rom-coms try: You Should See me in a Crown by Leah Johnson, or Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen. If you want more Can‘t Buy me Love retellings (fake relationships) in all sexualities try: Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan or Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao.

Really enjoyed this! I needed a fun, light book and this fit the bill. Fake dating is my 2nd fave romance trope!

2nd book of the year!
* A sapphic book
I gave it 4 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I really liked the story. Again, it started SO slow. I almost DNF'd. Glad I didn't. On chapter 11 it started picking up on their sweet & emotional romance. Found the relationship with the parents too unrealistic. Some parents are very supportive but NOT to a Full House extent. Positive/important messages throughout to the readers. Inclusive, and sweet. LOVED the ending.

Well, I had WAY too much caffeine today, so I stayed up late and finished reading this book. Such a fun, heartwarming read! It definitely deals with some tough things, but still managed to leave me feeling like I‘d just been hugged. A sweet, fun YA romance.

An adorable enemies-to-lovers YA novel about a basketball player who winds up fake dating her arch-nemesis --and the most popular girl in school --to make her ex-girlfriend jealous. Of course, they both catch feelings along the way. I liked how vulnerable and messy the characters were. They made so many mistakes and grew from them. A fun, tropey read that put a sappy smile on my face.

YA Romance with all the tropes (enemy to lover; let‘s pretend we‘re dating) in all the best ways. BIPOC characters and queer relationship. #ARC #Edelweiss
