I finally finished this one, as incredible as the first. Deka and her blood sisters are out to free Ôtera from oppression, but are they being swayed in the right direction. @Mshookquilts I can finally lend it to you

I vote Queen Dominique Jackson from hit series Pose & American Gods play the skillful “White Hands”. You can‘t tell me that she wouldn‘t rock this role!! Like it was meant for her. #dreamcasting #filmadaptation #booktok

Now Kingdom of Souls is wrapped up, I rolled again and here I am. Another heavy fantasy story, this is Part 2 to one of my favorite fantasy series, The Gilded Ones. If you haven‘t read the series, add it to your TBR, you will not be disappointed.

Kenyazero I recently watched a virtual talk (more of a Q&A) by this author through my library (via the Library Speaker's Consortium). It was a good talk. She seems like an interesting lady. I wonder if it'll let me share the recorded webinar? https://libraryc.org/ppld/21698/42766 14mo

An action packed plot with a world that continues to impress. The writing remains gorgeous & the construction is clever, resulting in an intricately built story full of complicated political & social culture. Though relevant to the plot, there were moments where the inclusivity felt a little heavy-handed. The pacing was occasionally slow, but revived to an explosive & tense pace for the last third. Overall, a great 2nd installment.

First book is always better, yes, yet seconds have incredible world building. Or here, mystery and betrayal. This page cementes most of the books plot. No spoilers though. Book is very lgbtq inclusive. There were many revelations within how the state of the world was, is and should be. Because of the gods, yes. But Deja is done with playing their games. She is the endgame.
Hope all safe in New England. We‘re without power because of the wind.

A long awaited sequel! It was easy to get back into this world and connect back with these characters. I found the pacing to this one a bit slow, but the unfolding of secrets and stories still kept me interested. I like the balance of adolescence with these warriors without being cruel or poking fun at naivety in their age, and showcasing their wisdom & strength. Will definitely be reading the next one!

I like this series a lot, but gotta admit the first book was better. This had less of a story line (more like a discovery after another) and a lot of action… which is fine, just took me longer to read and it ended up confusing me quite a bit. Also, felt like the characters didn‘t rly develop as much as in the first book, and I dno, I think I‘d have liked to have more interaction between them. This is def a series that I‘ll go back to tho!

#SeriesRead2022 @TheSpineView

The first book ended with a big reveal and this book picks up right where it left off. There's a lot more action and again Deka finds herself unsure who to trust. At times she can't even trust herself or what c she sees. Her actions are all in the hopes of making a better future for oppressed women and girls, but in the end has she made the right choices and put her trust in the right people?

I did enjoy The Merciless Ones, but as with a lot of second books in a trilogy this one was very slow to start. The ending was good and fast tempo.

I did get lost a bit, but that‘s a me not being great at fantasy thing, nothing against the book. Just a lot to keep track of and things changing quickly.
