Much like Han Kang‘s The Vegetarian, this quiet book is an enlightening portrayal of a woman dealing with societal pressures and expectations. In a strong patriarchal society like Korea, women have to face daily ‘casual‘ sexism & misogyny. This controversial book (and film) has stirred up a fierce debate about gender inequality in Korea. A story that must be told.

erzascarletbookgasm @LiteraryinLititz Oh nothing gruesome at all. It‘s reminiscent of The Vegetarian in terms of themes - mental health, society expectations, etc. One can say this is a feminist novel. 5y
