Love Story | Erich Segal
post image

My parents initially planned on naming me Lisa. However, fearing that name would be too popular, my mom was on the lookout for other girl names (had I been a boy I would have been named Robert after my dad). They went to see Love Story at the theater before I was born and as a result, I'm Jennifer, a name so popular in my age group that it left Lisa in the dust. 😂😂😂

#samename #riotgram

callunakeep LMAO! My mother named me Heather because she didn't like shortened forms of names (Bob for Robert or Christy for Christine) and Heather had no short form...my 8 aunts and uncles foiled her evil plan though and dubbed me "Hez" and still call me "Hez" 46 years later! ?? (edited) 7y
ValerieAndBooks Have you seen this time-lapse map of most popular girl baby names over the years? Yes, Jennifer held that top spot longer than Lisa 😊. https://www.google.com/amp/jezebel.com/map-sixty-years-of-the-most-popular-names... 7y
Peddler410 I don't remember the movie, but I'm named Jennifer because of an actress with an O' name. My parents liked how Jennifer worked with -- I think it was O'Conner .... I was O'Dowd 7y

LitHousewife @callunakeep LOL! That is fantastic! I like both Heather and Hez! 😂 7y
LitHousewife @ValerieAndBooks That is a great time lapse map. It was Jennifer, Jennifer everywhere for almost 10 years. 😂 7y
LitHousewife @Peddler410 I wonder if it's Jennifer O'Neill? If you're a 70s baby like me, she was really popular then. 7y
Peddler410 @LitHousewife that's the one! 7y
Reviewsbylola 😂😂 I feel your pain. Stephanie turned out to be pretty popular in the 80s when I was born. 7y
auntie_jenn my mother swears she didn't know of any Jennifers when she named me in 1970....really? 7y
NovelGirl82 Yep- Tiffany right here! ✋I was actually named after the jewelry store (my daddy was a jeweler), but according to my mom it was not a very popular name when they decided on it. It became very popular! 7y
MeganAnn 😂😂 My mom swears she didn't know any Megans when she named me in the mid-80s either. But every job I've ever had except for my current one has had at least one other Megan working there at some point. I have two very good friends named Megan, plus two different former college roommates, and a number of acquaintances. When we were looking for names for our son, Axton, I immediately ruled out anything that was even a little popular. 7y
LitHousewife @Reviewsbylola When I was little, Stephanie was one of the names I had picked out for a daughter. Definitely a name of the 80s. 😍 7y
LitHousewife @auntie_jenn Did she live in a bubble??? LOL! 😂😂😂 7y
LitHousewife @NovelGirl82 Your mom may be right. I think there must be a collective unconscious when it comes to baby names. I didn't want my daughter to be another "Jennifer." My husband and I picked Emma, an old fashioned name. No problem, right? Wrong. Thanks a lot Friends for naming the one baby on your show Emma. #youcantwin 7y
LitHousewife @MeganAnn I like the name Megan, too. 🤗 We tried that by picking Emma, but then Friends happened. Sigh. I'm surprised, just because you came up with the name Axton, that there hasn't been more. It's very cute, yet rugged name. 😍 7y
MeganAnn @LitHousewife aww thanks! There are plenty of kids named Rylan, Peyton, Cason, Mason, Keaton and any other 'on name you can think of in his school so I guess we still followed the trend 😳 but we've yet to hear of another Axton. It fits him so well too. 7y
NovelGirl82 @LitHousewife I think mine became popular thanks to the singer. I don't know. My best friend of 20 years is Tiffany, too, and we had another one in our graduating class of 325. 😂😂 7y

This prompt was tough for me, since there aren't any authors nor characters with the name Yesenia. Any authors out there? If so, it would be nice if you would name one of your characters Yesenia, please. So I went with an author who's name starts with a Y, one with my maiden name (Sánchez), and one with my last name (Toles). ? I got creative and I found another book to add to my TBR. Bait looks like a really good book. ?

When I was 10 years old, "Home Alone" was released. People often quoted the movie, saying "Kevin, you are such a disease." I was traumatized. Then Lionel Shriver named the title character of her novel about a school shooter Kevin. What? Couldn't you have named him Jethro or Cletus or Rudiger? Something a little less common, perhaps? "We Need to Talk About Elvis." Has a nice ring to it. I speak for all the Kevins of the world. #samename #riotgrams

vivastory ? ? "We Need to Talk About Jethro" It's the spin-off series to "The Andy Griffith Show" we never got 7y
myers85 Maybe not such a pleasant chap to share a name with but a fantastic novel nonetheless! 7y

Dark Eden: A Novel | Chris Beckett
post image

My author with the #samename is Chris Beckett. My favorite modern science fiction writer. His most famous work is his Dark Eden series which starts with this novel. An intelligent and fascinating story about the evolution of a stranded tribe of humans on a remote beautiful planet. Explores issues such as prejudice, religion and power struggles. I'm looking forward to reading the third installment which was released a few months ago. #riotgrams

"There are many Beths in the world, shy & quiet, sitting in corners till needed, & living for others so cheerfully that no one sees the sacrifices till the little cricket on the hearth stops chirping, & the sweet, sunshiny presence vanishes, leaving silence and shadow behind." Many Elizabeths in literature, but Beth is my #samename #riotgrams. This quote struck my core, back when I did not yet know that quiet & powerful are not mutually exclusive.

#riotgrams #samename my name isn't that common now but I'm glad I share it with such a great author. I used to hate my name as a kid, I didn't like that it made me stand out in my age group. Now I'm glad that if I hear my name called I'm 99.9% sure it must be for me

bates_barb Heh, I'm the same way. At school, the only other Barbaras were the teachers. My poor brother had at least 5 kids with his same first name in every class. It bugged me then, but I like having a relatively uncommon name for my age now. 7y
Weaponxgirl @bates_barb yup 😀I think you almost grow into a odd name, the only other people I've met with my name are old ladies. I just wish the airplane jokes weren't quite so frequent. Or more the fact they think you don't know what they're referencing 7y
