Gonna have to go watch this now since Book Riot told me to.

I'm also planning to start a reread via Serial Reader in the near future.

I finally got to see Little Women today and I LOVED it! It was so well done. It stays true to the text in many ways but also offers some updates that suit the characters and the moment. It's one of the best literary adaptations I've seen in ages. Greta Gerwig is a genius!
It's made me want to re-read the book. In part so I can appreciate the original text again AND so I can better understand how she re-imagined it. Seriously, so good!

My sister wants to start reading more by buddy reading with me. This is huge on so many levels, but my favorite thing about this is it'll be a way to bond with her even though we live in opposite parts of the country. These two books will be our first books together.

Does anyone else buddy read with their siblings?

Reviewsbylola I have a book club that two of my sisters and my mom are in. My third sister lives out of the country, so we do our own family mark up book club, where we all pick a book, write our comments as we read, and then pass it down the line when we‘re done. It‘s fun to see what the others have written. 2mo
GloVerdino I very rarely buddy read with my sisters because we all swap books, every time we together we have stacks to pass on to someone else! 2mo
cassiopia @GloVerdino oh, that's a shame, but your way sounds really fun though! If only my sister wasn't 1500 miles away from me. My own fault for moving though, oh well 🤷‍♀️ 2mo
cassiopia @Reviewsbylola that sounds like so much fun! I kind of did a same thing when I sent the books to my sister. I stuck random post it notes in the pages with little "love" messages. I can't for her to come across them ? 2mo

In love with @LaraRead 's #bookbasketgiveaway concept!! Choose a book - what would be in a themed basket with that book?? (Check out her post for details on the giveaway part!)

Little Women immediately came to mind! Obviously, a copy of Pilgrim's Progress is a must. Limes (pickling optional), a clothespin (no better way to guarantee a straight nose), some sheet music (since a piano doesn't really fit in a basket), a blank notebook & pen ⬇

TheAromaofBooks a glove (the other one mysteriously missing, although I could only find pictures of pairs!), an large umbrella, and possibly a few of Beth's kittens!

What else should be in the basket? Trying to decide what book to do next...

An American classic. I really disliked these sisters. Priggy is a new word that I have learned when trying to describe this book. I read a lot of classics, but the language and attitudes of the characters was annoying.
Also Mr Laurence calls Jo a hussy? Even in jest it did not fit and was so odd.

LibrarianRyan OMG. Kindred spirits. I‘m listening to this book because I need to fill a public domain prompt. I‘m remembering why I never finished it all the other times I tried to read it. I‘m ONLY on chapter 9. Right after the limes and I just....ughhhhhhhh. I still have like 14 hours to go. 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @LibrarianRyan what in the world are pickled limes??? I feel so bad I have never read this, and I picked it for book club! 2mo
LibrarianRyan @ChaoticMissAdventures Exactly. I think pickled anything I‘m thinking in a jar with vinegar. But these are obviously whole as she is made to throw them out the window two at a time. Plus they keep being referred to as a sweet. Last I checked lines are not sweet. 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @LibrarianRyan wow this looks disgusting! I guess it makes sense given the time period. But ew 😂 2mo

The ultimate cozy read! With all the excitement over the new Greta Gerwig adaptation, it was time to revisit this classic! Pleasantly, I found myself just as entranced at 28 as I did at 10. Yes, there are some dated gender ideas and more religion than I remembered, but I found myself deeply inspired by the focus on self-improvement that the transcendental Marches promote. I laughed at, cried for, and loved those March sisters all over again!

My parents would tell me that I was born in the wrong era because of my love for classics and the old Hollywood stars Jimmy Stewart and Katherine Hepburn. I have Hepburn's Jo from the 30s, June Allyson's Jo from the 50s with Elizabeth Taylor as Amy, the 70s version with Meredith Baxter, and the 90s with Wynona Ryder. My favorite has always been Hepburn.

Until tonight. I have betrayed her. This version was completely heart-rending and joyous. 😍

Butterfinger Angela Lansbury was brilliant and so funny as Aunt March. Plus, Uma Thurston's and Ethan Hawke's daughter Maya Hawke was very believable as the impulsive and tom-boyish Jo. I could gush on and on. Well done Masterpiece Theatre!!❤️ 7mo

I heard recently that there's going to be a new film adaptation of Little Women with a pretty awesome cast (Meryl Streep, Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan).
We had the old film on video and I used to watch it when I was off school sick.
And obviously the book is great too 😉
