Stories of Breece D'J Pancake | Breece D'J Pancake

#TBT

Great short story collection. Time and Again, in particular, is one of my favorites. If I were editing a collection of best short stories, it would be there. Very unsettling. Only 6 pages long, but I think about it (and reread it) often. The first time I read it my reaction was “Oh my, did I just read what I think I read?” You‘ll see what I mean if you give it a go.

ChaoticMissAdventures This sounds very good. I love unsettling books. It is always so interesting what some authors can convey in such a short amount of time - Usually I think of Shirley Jackson and Ursula K LeGuin for these things, will add this to my list! 2mo
quietjenn Such a great collection! 2mo

“Music, such music, is a sufficient gift. Why ask for happiness; why hope not to grieve? It is enough, it is to be blessed enough, to live from day to day and to hear such music - not too much, or the soul could not sustain it - from time to time.”

jlhammar Oh, I loved this book! 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures oh I don't know this one. I do love books about music though. Will have to check it out! 2mo
kathedron I wrote a 100-word review of this years ago for Gloucester Waterstones' newsletter. I got a £10 book voucher for my trouble. 😊 2mo

BarbaraBB @jlhammar Me too! I also listened to the cd that came with it! 2mo
BarbaraBB @kathedron was it a positive review? 2mo
Reggie I loved this book and his other one, the door stopper, A Suitable Boy. 2mo
BarbaraBB @Reggie Me too! A Suitable Boy was so good too! I‘ll save that one for another #TBT 😉 2mo
BarbaraBB @ChaoticMissAdventures Please do. It is the best book I read about classical music ever! 2mo

A bit early on #tbt because tomorrow is going to be a mess of a day

I really enjoyed this dark winter read. It isn't often we are gifted with older women as the main character in a book that isn't just silly. And I really appreciated that in this book. I also just loved the writing and how things twisted and turned, to the point where you are not totally sure who to trust. So well done, perfect winter read.

Billypar I enjoyed this one so much. I thought Tokarczuk revealed the murderer gradually, which allowed her to add some playful, dark humor that made it really unique among mysteries, along with what you pointed out about the protagonist's age and lack of stereotyping. 2mo
BarbaraBB This is a favorite of mine too! I‘ll surely will use it for a #TBT as well! 2mo

The Great Believers | Rebecca Makkai
post image

#tbt I am starting Makkai's newest book and I am so excited. Her Great Believers is one of my all time favorite reads. It is a rich, complex and heartbreaking story with vivid characters and concerning a found family in 1980's Chicago and how the AIDS epidemic ravaged their community. While the core of the story is painful and sad, it is also filled with hope and love, and excellent writing.

rachelm I just finished an arc of her newest! I enjoyed 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @rachelm oh good! I am starting it as soon as I can finish Eleanor Catton's ARC! 2mo
SamAnne Loved this one. Brought back some sad memories of coming of age in the 80s. 2mo

One by One | Ruth Ware
post image

#tbt The news keeps threatening snow here, but today is beautifully sunny.

Makes me think of winter reads though, and Ruth Ware is always a win in my opinion. Even if I figure it all out before the reveal I enjoy the ride.

Hoping to read a few more winter themed books in the next couple of months!

It is a holiday here in the states, and I almost missed #tbt but it is still only 10 pm here on the west coast, so my We Don't Talk About This Book Enough is
Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

This book is amazing, and hard. Tells the story from the from the side of the victims and of the law enforcement. Grann was too easy & much too complimentary of the FBI.. But he did do well showing the disparity between the justice a Native person.

BarbaraBB @marleed It‘s a sign! 😉 I hope you‘ll like although “like” might not be the right word. 2mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Me too, I couldn‘t believe what I was reading but as I mentioned avond, it was my first dystopian. 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures This is one of my all time favorite books 😍 I think you must go into it not knowing anything about it for the full experience. Ishiguro's writing and storytelling are phenomenal. 2mo
