Texreader Thanks for the tag again! I read 10, with women being my favorite authors again: Octavia Butler and Jane Austen. 2w
TheLudicReader I got 19, but I own a few others that I haven‘t yet read. Geesh, you think you read a lot and then do these lists. 😂 2w
CogsOfEncouragement 20 this time 2w
See All 62 Comments
Bookwormjillk I got 20% which is one less than last week. It makes me feel old that there are books on this list that I can remember when they first came out 🤣 2w
rwmg 32

I seem to be getting better each week
2w
Amiable @TheLudicReader Exactly! I only had 18, much to my chagrin. And I took AP English. Where the heck was I? 😄 2w
tpixie Only 16. 2w
melissajayne 21. favourites include Pride & Prejudice, Obasan, and The Odyssey 2w
DGRachel I got 17 for this one with too many favorites to list! Cormac McCarthy, Macbeth, Othello, Much Ado About Nothing, the Austens. I just wish I could count each reread! 😂 2w
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! ❤️🩷❤️ 2w
kspenmoll 28. Pride & Prejudice, The Odyssey, MacBeth, 2w
Catsandbooks Only 11. I've read more by authors who were on the list but not those exact books 2w
BooksandCoffee4Me 32. Favorites: Our Town, The Power and the Glory, all of the Austin novels. 2w
thebacklistbook 14/100 mostly the Shakespeare. 2w
Mollyanna Thanks for the tag. I‘ve only read 14. Ugh! And like @Amiable I took AP English. I do have quite a few on my TBR. 2w
Eggs ❤️❤️ 2w
thegirlwiththelibrarybag 5!! One of my best results from these AP lists. I recognised more titles this week too ☺️ 2w
dabbe @Texreader I have yet to read anything by Butler; she's now on my list! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @TheLudicReader You do read a LOT! Most of these are ancient, I mean (ahem) classics. You beat my sorry ass this week! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement Better than me! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Bookwormjillk And they were on our high school “to-read“ lists and are still there! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @rwmg Ya whipped me this week! 🙌🏻 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Amiable So did I! I have to admit that my head was sometimes buried in Cliff's Notes. 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @tpixie You're in good company; my score was 18! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @melissajayne Never read OBASAN; I put it on the TBR. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @DGRachel I still can't believe I've never read anything by McCarthy. You've inspired me! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @kspenmoll Ya whopped my sorry butt! MACBETH's my favorite Shakespearean play of all time. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Catsandbooks I say you should count those and redo! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w

dabbe @thebacklistbook Yay, you! I need more Shakespeare in my life. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Mollyanna @Amiable Same here! Maybe we should have an AP English buddy read! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Mollyanna @Amiable Same here! Maybe we should have an AP English buddy read! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Eggs 😘 2w
dabbe @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Yay, you! Can we count them if we recognize them? 🤔🤩😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
DGRachel @dabbe You can go wrong with No Country for Old Men, but I would avoid The Passenger and Stella Maris duology. This reminds me the Blood Meridian is still on my TBR. I really need to get to that one… 2w
Amiable @dabbe I do honestly toy with the idea of going back and reading all of those classics that I was supposed to have read but instead managed to get through AP English armed only with a cursory review of Cliff's Notes and a winning smile for my teacher. 😄 2w
dabbe @DGRachel Good to know! I've been scared to read him! 😅 Thanks. 🤗 2w
dabbe @Amiable I wish we had been in the same class together. We would have been #incahoots! 🤩😂🤗 2w
DGRachel @dabbe I totally meant cannot go wrong with No Country. Just know it‘s violent. The Road is probably his best known and it‘s excellent but depressing. 2w
Amiable @dabbe OMG, my English teacher was legendary! On the 1st day of class she told how she escaped Budapest during the Hungarian revolution in 1956 by swimming across the Danube with a backpack holding only a change of clothes and “Hamlet.“ Kind of hard to complain about Shakespeare after that! She also claimed to be a judge for the Nobel Prize for Literature. Found out years later from her obit that she actually was! She scared the bejesus out of us. 2w
willaful 13 for me. Not many favs other than Pride and Prejudice, though I was really into One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest back in the day. 2w
tpixie @Amiable what an amazing resilient teacher you had! 2w
Mollyanna @Amiable Your teacher sounds amazing! 2w
Amiable @tpixie @Mollyanna We did not appreciate her at the time! She was intense and had sky-high expectations for us. We were all afraid of her, mostly. 😄 But now I can credit her for the success I‘ve had in college, grad school and my career. I can draw a straight line from the things I learned in her class to today —40 years later. 2w
tpixie @Amiable that‘s amazing. I think that happens with teachers- it‘s not until we reflect on our life that we can appreciate their impact 🩵🤍🩵 2w
dabbe @DGRachel Fabulous advice. I will file these emotions away, and when I'm ready, I'll give him a try! 🤩 2w
dabbe @Amiable She sounds like an incredible woman. She could have penned her own memoir/autobiography! 🤩 2w
dabbe @willaful P&P is my fave Austen. I've even read some horrible pastiches just to revisit Darcey and Elizabeth in as many ways as I could! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Amiable I also was terrified of my AP English teacher. She gave me a “C“ on my 1st essay. I had NEVER received a C in anything in English. I ran to my mom in the library (she worked at my high school) and begged her to get me out of her class. “No way,“ was her reply. “You've finally met someone who's going to take you out of your comfort zone.“ Ms. Wogan was the only teacher I came back to visit my 1st weekend home from college. 🩶 2w
MonicaLoves2Read I have read 12, 6 in High School 6 in College 2w
Kitta Read 12, this list is very different from my reading list in school! My favourite would have to be the Picture of Dorian Gray, which I read on my own time in University. I have an Oscar Wilde tattoo 😂 so probably no surprise there. 2w
dabbe @MonicaLoves2Read #yahooyou! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 2w
dabbe @Kitta DORIAN is one of my top 3 from this list as well! I'd love to see your tattoo, too! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 (edited) 2w
Kitta @dabbe it‘s a nightingale and a rose, 🥀 🐦 from the short story! I‘ll post a picture if I can, it‘s on my inner bicep so hard to photograph 😂 2w
dabbe @Kitta 🤩🤗🤩 2w
PurpleyPumpkin 23/100, not bad! Favourites are The Picture of Dorion Grey, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Obasan. Always fun to do these, thanks for the tag!💜 1w
AnishaInkspill thanks for the tag 😍 1w

Tagging those who played last week. 🤗

DGRachel I did better this time but still didn‘t beat the average. I got 19. Too many on my favorites list, many that I have tried, failed, and will never try again (not counted) and several I‘d like to read. Fun! 3w
Cheryl_Russell_BookNotes 17/100. The Joy Luck Club, Love Medicine, Little Fires Everywhere, Little Women, Housekeeping, and Going After Cacciato all jumped out at me. Some were ‘Did I read this? I don‘t remember‘ (didn‘t count those). 3w
PuddleJumper What's ap literature? 3w
See All 56 Comments
dabbe @DGRachel Yay to beating your score last week! I hope I do the same. And don't say you “failed“ at reading them. You #hailedthebails! 🤩 I cringed at quite a few of these just by looking at their covers! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @Cheryl_Russell_BookNotes I say if you even thought you might have read it, it should count! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @PuddleJumper AP stands for Advanced Placement, and it's usually a senior course in high school where, if a student takes the 4-5 hour literature exam at the end of the year (multiple-choice and 3-4 essays), she/he/they can receive college credit and not have to take English 101 or 102 in college. Also, if a student receives an “A“ in the class, it counts as a 5.0 re: gpa, not a 4.0. 3w
MaleficentBookDragon I hated Ethan Frome soooooooo much! 3w
MaleficentBookDragon Better than last week but still not a lot. 21 (lady week 17). 3w
dabbe @MaleficentBookDragon You're still in fantastic company; pretty much most of us are between 5-30. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @MaleficentBookDragon That book is so flippin' sad! 😭 3w
PuddleJumper @dabbe Ahh, ok we don't have anything like that in the U.K 3w
BkClubCare 35 for me! With one title I am not sure of and a few that I skimmed or only *think* I have read (cough, Great Expectations, cough) 3w
BkClubCare @MaleficentBookDragon - there are some HILARIOUS youtube videos by HS kids mocking that book. 3w
dabbe @PuddleJumper I should have explained with the 1st list last week. Sorry about that! 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @BkClubCare #yahooyou! Great Ex: 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
CogsOfEncouragement I checked off 14 again. Four were assigned to me in HS. 3w
LA1 Rank 72 out of 81 with a score of 23 🤷🏼‍♀️ I didn‘t think I would get any but a few is good 😊 3w
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement There's quite a few on this list that I'm not even remotely interested in reading! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @LA1 You got more than a few, and you're in good company! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
Patchshank Thanks for the tag. I've read 10. There's a few there I own but haven't read like Kafka on the shore and kindred. 3w
BookNAround 44 on this one so fewer than last week. 😉 3w
LiseWorks I only read 14 and only because I had to either for school or it was on my tbr forever 3w
TheLudicReader A whopping 18! 😬 3w
peaKnit Doh! 10! lol 3w
bibliothecarivs Seven for me this time, more than my four from last time. 3w
dabbe @Patchshank I have quite a few, too. Maybe someday, right? 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @BookNAround #yourock! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @LiseWorks I hear ya! #metoo 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @TheLudicReader We're in good company! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @peaKnit Dohing is not allowed! 😂 Ya done good are in great company with the rest of us! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @bibliothecarivs Some book covers on this list did not do much to make me want to read them! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
Bookwormjillk 20 for me. Ethan Frome and The Great Gatsby are two favorites I always think though people should wait until they‘re 30 to read them. Grapes of Wrath is another favorite. One of the few assigned readings I finished in school. Even then I loved to #HailTheBail 3w
Texreader Ive only read 9, but can‘t remember all the Shakespeare I‘ve read and I question a few others. The best books from this batch were by women: Frankenstein, Kindred, The Handmaid‘s Tale, and In the Time of the Butterflies. 3w
Texreader @dabbe Oh I was wondering! I‘m too old for all that “Advanced Placement” test stuff! 😉 We had a special English class for a few seniors who wanted advanced reading. And it was great. But that‘s all it was. 3w
dabbe @Bookwormjillk Agree 💯. These books I feel are sometimes wasted on the high school kids who need to live more and suffer more to truly appreciate them. #Hailingthebail was a favorite activity of mine, too--plus reading CLIFF'S NOTES! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @Texreader Yay for women writers! Curious as to which ones you question, too! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @Texreader Your senior class sounds a lot more fun than the AP one! We once had a class for seniors that was called Senior Contemporary Novels, and it was fabulous. Kids reading books and discussing a la a book-club format. Now, there's no room for exploratory classes like that. A true bummer. 3w
Texreader @dabbe Oh that sounds lovely! 3w
rwmg 28, better than my 21 last week.

Quite a few I know I've read but remember almost nothing about.
3w
thebacklistbook 11/100 I'm sure I forgot some. 3w
PurpleyPumpkin What a great book list! While I‘m familiar with many of these, I‘ve only read 27 which surprised me. Favourites are The Importance of Being Earnest, Little Women, and Fahrenheit 451. So many more I want to read!📚 3w
tpixie 16/100. Apparently I go for the ‘trash‘ books instead of classics!! 3w
Eggs 🧡🤗 3w
dabbe @Texreader It truly was. 🤩 3w
dabbe @rwmg Our brains can only remember so much when we read a lot of books, right? Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @thebacklistbook I'm sure you did! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @PurpleyPumpkin Love all 3 of your choices! I actually burned a book when I introduced F451 to my students. The kids were like 😳😱😝! It was a book that was already falling apart. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @tpixie No book is trashy! 🤩 Remember, too, that these are books that had to pass the “banned“ criteria... for example, I can guarantee no book by Toni Morrison is on the list, and she ain't trashy at all! You're in good company, m'dear! Most scores were between 5-25. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
dabbe @Eggs 🩶🩵🩶 3w
tpixie @dabbe 💙🩵💙 3w

New Survey: AP Literature Free Response Titles List #1 (1970-2024)
I really needed a list to take me totally away from the crapola of this week in the USA.
1. Survey link: https://www.listchallenges.com/litsy-ap-literature-free-response-titles-list-1
2. Share your score if you'd like.
3. Share your 3 favorites from the list or 3 that you might be interested in reading or a combo or whatever you'd like.
4. Tag a few!

dabbe I'll post my faves later, but for the record: I've only read 20 from this list. So many ones I still want to read! 🤩 1mo
Texreader That was fun. I‘ve read 11 and probably a few more, but I just can‘t remember. Easily my favorite was Dracula. 1mo
Bookwormjillk I‘ve read 19 I think, but high school was a long time ago so I‘m not 100% which Shakespeare plays I read and which I just saw. Loved Dracula and Cry, The Beloved Country blew me away when I read it in school. 1mo
See All 59 Comments
thebacklistbook 12. Mostly read for lit classes. 1mo
rwmg 21

I'm guessing this is a school reading list but I don't really know what AP classes are or what to expect from them.
1mo
LiseWorks I read only 8, but that's because I'm a Canadian, and our schools and universities have different books. Like where was most of Shakespeare stuff like Romeo and Juliette. 1mo
bthegood ❤️💙❤️ (edited) 1mo
PurpleyPumpkin I read 16 on this list and have many others on my tbr shelf. Many of these reads were from when I went to university. But I‘d like to get back to some of these. Thanks for posting!👍🏽 1mo
BookNAround I‘ve read 46 but I do have 2 English degrees and did take AP English way back in the day. I have quite a few of the newer (post my long ago schooling) books on my shelves tbr. Also, I have read other books by a bunch of the authors but not necessarily their works on the list. (edited) 1mo
Kar2b Only 6 for me. I haven‘t read All the Light We Cannot See yet, but I own it, so that‘ll take me to 7. 🤪 1mo
TheSpineView Thanks for the tag! 😍 1mo
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! 1mo
dabbe @Texreader Yes to DRACULA, too! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk Still can't believe I've never read CRY. On the TBR! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @thebacklistbook Same here. Or ones I had to teach! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @rwmg AP stands for Advanced Placement, and it is a literature course where if seniors can pass the AP literature exam (where these titles come from), they don't have to take English 101/102 in college. These are titles that the College Board (the ones who created all AP courses) deems are “works of literary merit.“ Obviously, that thought is up for debate. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @LiseWorks Excellent point. Most titles are British and American, which is why those two subjects are taught in a lot of American high school courses. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @bthegood 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @PurpleyPumpkin YW! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @BookNAround #yahooyou! I knew you'd score higher than most--and you kicked my sorry English-teacher's ass! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @Kar2b I own it, too, and have yet to read it! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
dabbe @TheSpineView YW! 😘 1mo
dabbe @Deblovestoread YW! 😘 1mo
BkClubCare I checked 31 but not that many were from HS but the past decade plus when I wanted to read more classics 🌟 Always fun to look at book lists 😂 1mo
dabbe @BkClubCare I love book lists! It just makes the ol' TBR grow to infinity and beyond! 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
LA1 Thanks for the tag! I‘m ranked #210, having read only 5 of the books. 😊 1mo
dabbe @LA1 I sure found quite a few to add to my TBR; how about you? 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 1mo
bibliothecarivs I don't read a lot of fiction so I've only read 4. But Don Quixote, Elmet, and Dancing at Lughnasa are on my to-read list. 1mo
dabbe @bibliothecarivs What type of nonfiction do you like? Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵🩶🩵 1mo
TheLudicReader 17…not a great result. Lots of unfamiliar titles, too. 1mo
peaKnit Oof 9% 1mo
bibliothecarivs @dabbe I'm a nonfiction librarian and have wide interests but I usually read history, biography, autobiography, literary studies, cultural analysis, poetry, religion, nature & travel writing, and books about my favouite music, visual art, and films, with some politics, philosophy, science, and folklore sprinkled in. 1mo
dabbe @TheLudicReader Same here. Mostly American and British authors, too. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵🩶🩵 1mo
dabbe @peaKnit You're in good company! 😂 Any you want to add to your never-ending TBR? 🩵🩶🩵 1mo
dabbe @bibliothecarivs And I am #gobsmacked! 🤩 I would love to read more nonfiction, especially in history. Do you have anything to recommend for Tudor or 19th century British History or Colonial/Early American history? 1mo
KadaGul Thank you 🫶 for the tag 🏷️. #Hello2025 🍀💜🌅💙 1mo
Patchshank Thanks for the tag. I scored an 8 😂 1mo
WorldsOkayestStepMom Thanks for the tag! I have read 14 of them. 1mo
azulaco I scored 33. And actually I‘m embarrassed, because lots of these titles have been on my infinite TBR list for YEARS, so I should have read more of them. I did have a good high school and college education. A lot of the ones I read were assigned in class, or caught my interest after a related class discussion. I must admit that a couple, I‘ve only read excerpts of, so I kind of cheated. 1mo
bibliothecarivs @dabbe yes! The Five by Rubenhold and the English Reformation by Jones. Currently enjoying Tomalin's biography of Thomas Hardy (b. 1840). If you're willing to go a little outside of the Tudor period, Dan Jones's books Summer of Blood and The Plantagenets are excellent. 1mo
dabbe @KadaGul YW! 🩵🩶🩵 4w
dabbe @Patchshank You're in good company; most of us scored under a 20! Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵🩶🩵 4w
dabbe @WorldsOkayestStepMom Yay you! Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵🩶🩵 4w
dabbe @azulaco I say if you “dabbled“ in a book, it counts! Most scored under 20, so yahoo you! Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵🩶🩵 4w
dabbe @bibliothecarivs I will look into all of these! Thank you so much for your help and expertise! 🤗 4w
dabbe @bibliothecarivs Ooh, I love JtheR stuff! 🤩 4w
DGRachel I managed a whopping 7. 😂 There were several others that I tried to read and bailed (glaring at Crime & Punishment) and a little sad at the number of authors I‘ve read, but haven‘t read the “right” book. I‘ve read a lot of Dickens and Cormac McCarthy, for instance. 😮‍💨 But also, I have to recommend a different translation of Beowulf. This one is 🤩 4w
dabbe @DGRachel This survey only went through the letters A-C, so I bet your authors and other titles will be coming! And you're in good company; most of us scored 20 or under this time around. 😂 I'll have to check out your BEOWULF suggestion; thanks! Thanks also for playing and sharing. 🩵🩶🩵 4w
DGRachel I truly hated Beowulf in high school, but Headley‘s translation was delightful (if you like modernizations). It literally had me howling with laughter. I highly recommend the audiobook. 4w
dabbe @DGRachel Now on the TBR! 🤩🩵🤩 4w
CogsOfEncouragement I‘ve read just 14 on the list. 4w
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement You're in good company; most of us scored 20 or lower! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵🩶🩵 4w
iread2much Only 6 for me 😅 3w
dabbe @iread2much We're all in good company! Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵🩶🩵 3w
Cheryl_Russell_BookNotes Missed this last week. Just as well, 8/100. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3w
dabbe @Cheryl_Russell_BookNotes You're in good company; most of us scored 20 or less! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩵🩶 3w
Sleepswithbooks Only 7 😮 3w
dabbe @Sleepswithbooks You're with the rest of us, m'dear! Most were between 1-20! I've added quite a few to my TBR. Doesn't mean I'll ever get to them, but still, a girl can dream ... 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩶🩷🩶 3w

Had a doctors appt today so decided to take a full “mental health” day from work, treat myself to brunch and a mani, and start in on my #AuthorAMonth pick on audio.

Peter Wimsey‘s gleeful singing about dead bodies & murder investigations is…something else. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

I‘ve read 33 of 104. Favorites: The Eyes and the Impossible, The Last Cuentista, and The Girl Who Drank the Moon!

It is interesting to think about which books have stood the test of time and which haven‘t!

dabbe #yahooyou! I thought the same thing just looking at the covers! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🤩🤗🤩 1mo
