This story does not bring you back to Kvothe‘s world, but provides a glimpse into Auri‘s. It develops her character by following a week of her life during the time she knows Kvothe, although never mentions him by name. In Rothfuss‘s afterward to the book, it sounds as if Auri was revealing herself to him as much as his readers. Shorter than I expected when I picked it up, a quick read.

As much as I usually love Rothfuss books, this one just didn't hold my interest. I found it hard to see where the story was going and for this reason it was close to being a DNF for me. I did stick it out though reluctantly. 2.5⭐️ and feel that is generous.
A lot of people liked this one. I'll just call it as not my cup of tea.

TheSpineView Forgot to mention this is my #DoubleSpin selection for January. @TheAromaofBooks 11mo

Another fun Rothfuss novella, but not the third book of the Kingkiller Chronicle 🙂

Thank you B&N … I love Bast! And this is my first Rothfuss autograph. I hope to listen tonight while I work. Yes I have the audio too. 😁♥️

Ok - I wasn‘t going to read it. I was going to boycott. But alas, I am weak and this was great. It reminds me why we are all so upset- his writing is just that good. Maybe publishing this novella will get him writing more! He could write book 3 on toilet paper and I would read every word. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I know we‘re all disappointed this isn‘t book 3. But it is Pat‘s beautiful writing, and Nate Taylor‘s illustrations are fantastic. I loved it. I love Bast and his interactions with the town‘s children. I even shed tears at the end. I‘m glad I didn‘t let my disappointment keep me from reading this, and I hope writing it gave him the kickstart he needed to get back in his writing seat.

I‘d forgotten how much I love Patrick‘s writing. It‘s just a taste rather than the many course meal I would like, yet it was still enjoyable.
From the endnotes it seems that he has frustrations or anxieties about his writing as well. I‘ll wait.

I‘ve been out of cell service until last night, but got to listen to this on my way up and back. Strange story taking place over one day. Until the end I felt like Bast was both hero and predator. My physical library hold came in while I was up north so I‘m going to reread right away. Rothfuss‘ words have always sat with me better in print than audio for some reason.

KathyWheeler I‘ve never listened to Rothfuss‘ work; I wonder if I also need his writing in print. 13mo
BethM @KathyWheeler I can usually do either or as long as the narrator is good- and he is. But I struggled with Name on audio too, but was completely enthralled in print. 13mo
