I'm joining @wanderinglynn's #2025OffMyShelf reading challenge to make my own #ShelfLove challenge a little more exciting! I'll be adding books that fit these prompts to my #BookSpin lists as well.

Pickpick

I learned of James Vukelich from his Ojibwe word of the day on IG where he teaches how we are all connected with everything around us. And in this book, he teaches that “aanik-” means “to be interconnected.

This is a beautiful work. Here, he attempts to explain Ojibwe teachings by translating those words & concepts into English—not an easy feat. Because, like many language translations, it's not an easy one-to-one construction.

The first chunkster for the #ChunksterChallenge2025 that I‘m tackling is Don Quixote. The paperback edition I‘m reading has 940 pages. I failed to read it last year, so I added it to my #2025OffMyShelf reading challenge. I started it today & read 103 pages.

If/when I finish this one, I plan to tackle the bitsy chunkster The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle next.

Thanks @Amiable for hosting!

Amiable Excellent! “Don Quixote” is still on my list of chunksters to be tackled. 2d

Bailedbailed

I‘m not sure where I picked up this Christopher Pike book. I enjoyed Pike as a teen but after about 50 pages, I‘m bailing to move on to other reads. This was my #Bookspin for January.

Bookzombie My decorations are still up. I was a little late getting them up in December so I‘m enjoying them a little longer. 3d
Sweettartlaura I LOVED Pike as a teen/even college student. And I‘m re-reading Weekend with my 13 year old niece - some of the references are dated but the story is holding up. But I picked up a more recent one of his in the past decade and … 👎🏻🫤. I finished it. But I was disappointed 😔 3d
Reggie I have a coworker who keeps her tree up all year long and she‘ll just change the ornaments to fit the holiday. 3d

DogMomIrene @Reggie I think my husband may be joining her club. He‘s loving our tree, so it‘s still up. He says until the end of January, but we‘ll see😂😂😂 3d
Bookzombie @Sweettartlaura How fun to be reading with your niece! I think I would like to revisit some of his others like Chain Letter and Witch. This one just wasn‘t doing it for me. 3d
Bookzombie @Reggie I‘m not that committed, lol. Even though after it comes down the house feels kind of bare. I could see doing it with a small tree though. 3d
