Sweetkokoro I also recently started DNFing more books this year. It wasn‘t until I got on litsy that I realized it‘s okay to not finish a book if you just don‘t like it. 5y

Cailey_Mac I used to never DNF a book, so mostly I would just put them down for “later”. There have been at least 5 in the past few years I definitely DNF‘d because of some strong negative feelings towards it 5y

EadieB @Butterflyamore Enjoyed your video again and your blouse was very pretty. I don't do a lot of DNF but I have done a few. One was very popular, YOU by Caroline Kepnes. The language was horrible. The F word was used so many times that it got annoying to me. Also explicit sex I don't care for. My 1 star book this year has been Something In the Water by Catherine Stedman. It was predictable and I didn't like the main character. 5y

Julia's sister has been violently murdered. In order to find out who murdered her sister, Julia must become involved with a dangerous stranger online. Her search will jeopardize her marriage, her family and her life. I was a bit disappointed in this book. The main character was very annoying and I did not enjoy the explicit sexual language with the online scenes (edited) 5y

I listened to this on audio and could not relate to the author. She is an annoying complainer and this book is nothing but a pity party! It‘s very boring and there is a lot more better books out there to read. Poorly written. I cannot recommend this one as it is not worth reading in my opinion! (edited) 5y

EadieB @Butterflyamore I read Spinning Silver and liked it but I agree too many POV's. In Cold Blood was a winner for me because I like True Crime. I thought maybe you didn't like the violence because that was hard to read. 5y

wordslinger42 I also started DNFing in the last year or so. When I was in college as an English Lit major, I had no choice but to finish books no matter how much I hated them, so it was just my habit for awhile. But it's so much nicer to just stop reading if I want to! Life's too short and there are too many good books to read ones I can't stand! 5y

abookishbutterfly @EadieB Thanks! I wonder how I will end up liking Maid. Pity parties are so draining so I fear I might not care for it. It sounds like I wouldn‘t enjoy You or Second Life. 5y

abookishbutterfly @Sweetkokoro Yes, Litsy and FB book groups have really helped me realize that it‘s absolutely okay to not finish a book. I really do think it ultimately leads to me reading more in the end! Life is too short for books we‘re not enjoying. 5y

EadieB @Butterflyamore I would have to agree with your assessment. I do own Round House and I know she is a very good author so I do look forward to reading that one someday. 5y

Suet624 @EadieB I am SO glad to read your opinion on Maid. I bailed on that and I rarely bail. I had similar issues: no money, no support, single mom. I never once complained. I felt like that‘s all she did. 5y

Suet624 @Butterflyamore @Sweetkokoro Litsy helped me too with bailing on a book. For some reason I never thought I should do it. It‘s still rare for me to do, but at least I give myself permission now and again. 5y

EadieB @Suet624 I just kind of think that she could have tried a little harder to get a better job and I know my comments would not be popular but where did she get the money for all of those tattoos. She just made very bad decisions and I feel as though she is her own worse enemy. lol Not nice of me but that's my feeling. 5y

abookishbutterfly @Suet624 @EadieB I was a single mom in the same type of situation for 15 years. I did the best I could with what little I had. I‘m beginning to fear this book is going to make me very angry! I definitely empathize with other poverty stricken single moms but there is a difference between telling your story and intentionally trying to make others feel sorry for you. 5y

EadieB @Butterflyamore I was never in that position but my sister was and she spent most of her time trying to hook up with rich lawyers but most of them were drunks and losers. She lived way beyond her means and my father was constantly having to bail her out. Her life was one bad decision after another. She lived in Florida and had a tanning bed in her house and died of melanoma at age 55 in 2007. So sad. 5y

abookishbutterfly @EadieB Oh goodness! I am so sorry! That is very sad. I‘ve had a few single mom connections with women who have made similar choices. It really breaks my heart because I know their pursuit of “happiness” will be fruitless and I wish they could get to the point that they would see that. It‘s very hard to watch. 5y

EadieB @Butterflyamore She spent most of her money making herself look good and never paid her bills. I sent her $1,000 one time and she said she would pay me back. I told her it was a gift but she sent me a check that bounced. What a slap in the face that was! Then she would never answer my phone calls and she told her kids horrible stuff about me and they don‘t talk to me anymore. She quit talking to my dad too. I think she knew she was dying. abookishbutterfly @EadieB I understand. It‘s not the same but I‘ve been ostracized from my family (sisters) and they have done very cruel and hurtful things but they have money and I think money/success/popularity has gone to their heads. It really does hurt to have to think about it! 5y

EadieB @Butterflyamore Sometimes you have to forget your family and adopt some good friends and consider them family. I have my best friend that I have known since I was 5 and she is a better sister to me than my real sister. Why does that have to be? Is it sibling rivalry or something else? 5y

abookishbutterfly @EadieB Yes, I agree about family versus good, true friends. Some things go beyond sibling rivalry, I think. I‘m not sad to be free of the toxicity but there still is an ache that I can‘t quite explain. 5y

EadieB @Butterflyamore I feel it too and I think it‘s because it‘s not suppose to be like that but sadly it is a real happening in some families. I think it‘s more prominent in dysfunctional families as everyone is just trying to survive. 5y

Ddzmini I completely agree dnfing a book is so hard and I really can‘t write a bad or even iffy review??? Why is that 🙄 . I think it‘s because I see how the author writes the book and his/her feelings. I wouldn‘t want my work done that why so I just can‘t do it to someone else 🤷‍♀️. So I always find the positive and go with that 📖😋 5y

abookishbutterfly @Ddzmini I try to at least sandwich some positives in with my not so positive viewpoint. I do fully believe in honest reviews but I am usually able to find something worth commending when I have read a book all the way through and still failed to enjoy it. I agree that I wouldn‘t want anyone just tearing my work down. But constructive criticism can be a good thing, even when it stings. It‘s just hard to be the deliverer of that sting! 5y
