#AutumnPlease #Day24 #WorldPolioDay I just found out that Neil Young had polio as a child! He not only survived it, he went on to be one of the best singer/songwriters to ever live. #Scarathlon #SpookyGhostClub 6pts

Eyes in the Fishbowl | Zilpha Keatley Snyder

Perhaps my least favorite book by one of my favorite childhood authors. It was dated even when I read it, with 60s slang and squicky ethnic portrayals. But I think I like it a little more now, especially with a better understanding of the title metaphor.

#Scarathlon #TeamMischiefAndMayhem

willaful I forgot to mention, the main character had polio as a child. #WorldPolioDay . 1y

Gissy I don‘t give many 5 stars but this year I gave 5 stars to Peach Blossom Spring by Melissa Fu. Beautiful book and it is a debut novel. I finished the book last February 2023. Thank you for this activity🤗

#AutumnPlease! Day 24: #WorldPolioDay reminded me of Wilma Rudolph, Olympic champion and world‘s fastest woman, who suffered from polio as a child. Ever since she was a baby, Wilma had always been sickly, weighing only a little over four pounds at birth. Yet despite this, she remains a sprightly young girl who preferred jumping and running to simply walking. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7uT

A wonderful book inspired by a letter the author received from the daughter of a Polio survivor who lived in an iron lung. I listened to the author-read audiobook, which was excellent.

Faranae Oh! That's amazing. My dad contracted polio as a child during the last epidemic of it in Montreal. I know he couldn't walk for a long time and he doesn't like to talk about being in the hospital, except about getting to swim in a pool at the Shriner's hospital (the only charity he donates to). It made him a world class swimmer (as in, as a teen, he was a pacer for potential Olympic competitors, not being competitive himself). 1y
willaful That's some fascinating family history! 1y
