I read this book in one sitting, and I believe that is the only way you can do this justice. This is a bizarre, twisting tale about a week in broken Auri's life that reads like poetry.

So far this book has been a rich and vibrant narrative. It's told anecdotally, conversationally, and I'm enjoying it far more than I had expected to. (I'm up to ch 7)

The Gun Seller | Hugh Laurie

#sizzlinsummerbooks Day 4: Red white blue. If you haven't read The Gun Seller (by Hugh Laurie of House fame) I highly recommend it. It's really funny and quirky. Happy 4th of July to my American friends!

There's nothing like the friendship between a man and his dog - or in this case, Newt Scamander and Pickett.

"Now come on, Pickett. Pickett. No, they're not going to bully you...Now, come on, Pickett!

PICKETT clings by his spindly hands to one of NEWT's fingers, determined not to return to the tree. NEWT resigns himself.

All right. But this is exactly why they accuse me of favouritism.

"A little sea-bathing would set me up forever."

thebookdiviner Ooh my friend and I were just watching this version the other day! Absolutely brilliant 😍 3y
AshOldfield @thebookdiviner I absolutely love this version. The actress who plays Mrs Bennet is permanently in my head - I love telling my husband that he has no compassion for my poor nerves 😄 3y

#sizzlinsummerbooks Day 1: TBR I can't wait to really sink my teeth into this series.

AshOldfield @Tiffy_Reads This is a re-read for me and I'm enjoying it even more the second time around. 3y
EchoLogical I bought it for my husband for Father's Day, he raved about it so much that I'm gonna read it for my letter N pick for the #litsyatoz challenge 3y

#junereads It's amazing how many books I can churn through when I'm avoiding writing a difficult scene.
- The Raven Cycle (re-read Books 1-4)
- The Imperial Radch Series (Books 1-3)

CrowCAH I totally understand the avoidance tactics; going through that right now with my manuscript. 😂 3y

Ancillary Mercy | Ann Leckie
Mehso-so

Pros: This is a quick read, everything is more or less wrapped up in the series, some interesting characters.
Cons: Very little action, lots of relationship drama rather than world drama, everything feels a little too neat and tidy.

Norwegian Wood | Haruki Murakami

Pickpick

Norwegian Wood opened my eyes to a whole new type of fiction. It is a great gateway drug to Murakami's bizarre brand of writing. This is a strange, beautiful coming of age story that I highly recommend.

I thought this #welcomelitten tag might be a fun way to meet some of the Litsy community 😊

1. Location: Melbourne, Australia
2. Why here?: Bookstagram
3. Movie: A Series of Unfortunate Events
4. Pet turtle?: I wish 😔

monkeygirlsmama Can you believe I still have not seen the movie or tv show, nor have I ever read the Unfortunate Events series?! It's one of my sister's favorites so I'm not sure how this has happened. I could be disowned. 😄 3y
AshOldfield @monkeygirlsmama I haven't read the books either, but I can highly recommend the TV series. It was fantastic and definitely better than being disowned 😜 3y
saguarosally I haven't read them either. I tried to interest my nephews in them but they didn't seem so interested in them . 3y

Ancillary Sword | Ann Leckie
Mehso-so

This book was all about politics, and lacked a lot of the action and suspense of Ancillary Justice. That being said, I still mostly enjoyed this book.

This is my own book baby 😊 Rachaya always knew she was a dragon, but didn't really know what it meant. She is discovered by the dragons and they take her back to the dragon sanctuary, Fyrebyrne Island. She has to go to school with the other dragons, learning how to transform and use her fire. Oh, and she's also a princess (how did her mum forget to tell her that) and she's determined to be a warrior queen like the dragons of old.

monkeygirlsmama Sounds pretty cool. Congrats! 3y

This is my current reread- one chapter a day is all I am allowed. I'm analysing what it was about the language usage that grabbed me so firmly when I read it about 7 years ago.

"I trouped, travelled, loved, lost, trusted and was betrayed."

GRThomas2014 Brilliant book. So full and rich 3y
AshOldfield @GRThomas2014 There's so much to it. Even limiting myself to one chapter a day, I'm sure I'm missing so much. 3y
