Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel | Mariah Marsden
51 posts | 45 read | 24 to read
The magic of L.M. Montgomerys treasured classic is reimagined in a whimsically-illustrated graphic novel adaptation perfect for newcomers and kindred spirits alike. When Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan who can help manage their family farm, they have no idea what delightful trouble awaits them. With flame-red hair and an unstoppable imagination, 11-year-old Anne Shirley takes Green Gables by storm. Annes misadventures bring a little romance to the lives of everyone she meets: her bosom friend, Diana Barry; the town gossip, Mrs. Lynde; and that infuriating tease, Gilbert Blythe. From triumphs and thrills to the depths of despair, Anne turns each everyday moment into something extraordinary. L.M. Montgomerys classic story finds new expression in the whimsical illustrations of this graphic novel. Perfect for newcomers and kindred spirits alike.

It had been possibly twenty years since I read this series, so I hardly remembered anything plot wise. Still, some phrases popped out and jogged my memory. The graphic novel rendition has beautiful illustrations and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

A snow day nostalgic read and an excellent #GraphicNovel adaptation. Marsden is thoughtful in her choice of moments to include and at distilling them. I have a few quibbles about the illustrations (no pupils in characters' eyes was weird, and Diana isn't plump, the roads aren't red) but I did love the colour palette and the landscape and domestic details. It never mentions PEI as the setting. What are you trying to do American adapters??

Anne and Diana eating ice cream at the picnic. In general I really like the illustrations in this #GraphicNovel adaptation, but I am disappointed that Diana isn't beautifully plump with dimples in her elbows like Anne is jealous of in the original. I also find the artist's choice to not draw pupils in eyes a bit weird? I love the colour palette though and the expressiveness of people's faces. #AnneofGreenGables

LeahBergen I can‘t say I really like Anne‘s nose either! 😬 2w

Anne of Green Gables a graphic novel by Mariah Marsden is a great way to encourage historical fiction in a more entertaining way. The story is about a family who lives on a farm looks to adopt a son to help keep the farm going but rather gets sent a young girl. We get to learn what an imaginative person Anne is through awesome pictures illustrated by Brenna Thummler.

BRaulerson A standard that could relate to this story is https://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewStandard/Preview/5701.
The UDL Guideline I would use is offers alternatives for visual information. The graphic novel is a great way to put a visual with a story to keep the reader engaged. The ESOL strategy I would use is integrating speaking, listening, reading, and writing. #UCFLAE3414F19

⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is a really cute and generally well-executed adaptation, however, the lack of scleras made the eyes look a bit odd. I know that‘s nit picky, but I‘m just being honest. Otherwise the illustrations are really beautiful. Anne still touched my heart.

QueenJen I don't think it's not picky at all. I won't read some comics/graphic novels if I don't like the art style!😉 8mo
britt_brooke @QueenJen Thanks - that makes me feel better. 💚 The weird thing is that otherwise, I liked the art. Just, those eyes were a strange choice. 8mo
sammisho I don't like those eyes at all! 😬 8mo

Jen_Reads Those eyes creep me out and remind me more of the button eyes in Coraline than an actual eye. 8mo
Swe_Eva @Jen_Reads That's exactly what I was thinking! 8mo
rretzler I‘m kind of freaked out by the noses being a different color than the rest of the face, though the eyes do remind me of Coraline too. 8mo

LeahBergen Ewwww! 😳 8mo
britt_brooke @sammisho @Jen_Reads @Swe_Eva @rretzler @Caroline2 Totally reminiscent of Coraline. The noses are odd, too. The more I look at the faces, the weirder they become! 🙈 8mo

I loved the Anne of green gables movies when I was younger! Eventually once I got older I tried to read the book but got bored because I had seen the movie and had ideas as to what would happen. I would definitely recommend this version for younger kids to read before watching the movie.

GRAPHIC NOVEL VERSION. This is a great way to ease kids into the real Anne of Green gables books! This is such a cute story and may seem unimaginable to some kids. Some kids may love the spunk Anne has throughout the book.

#LiteraryLuck Day 9: For #GreenReads, Fats, one of the GatheringBooks ladies, recommends the graphic novel adaptation of Anne Of Green Gables. She noted: “I devoured the book in one sitting! I enjoyed Brenna Thummler‘s illustrations and I love how the comic panels reflected the scenes I saw on Netflix. Anne Shirley was quite a character.” Her full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-icI

I LOVE Anne of Green Gables the book and movies, but I feel that the graphic novel was a bit let down in comparison. There was so many good parts left out, and the transitions were not good.

After seeing Litsy comments on Anne of Green Gables I decided to order a copy for my Grand Children. It gave me the opportunity to order A Summer in Sicily by Jo Thomas as a gift for my partner and a book for myself, The Darker Arts by Oscar De Muriel. The two latter books are due to be published in August.

This is such a treasure. I got it from the library but will be adding a copy to my own personal library. It covers the essence of Anne‘s adventures and imagination. The illustrations are enchanting. I swoon! This is a must for all Anne lovers. #librarybook #readwomen

abbielistenstobooks I almost bought this for my nearly-12yo niece good Christmas, but didn't know if she'd think it was babyish. You know that age when you're too cool for EVERYTHING? Then you get over it eventually? 13mo
Lea @abbielistenstobooks haha yes to remembering that age. Can be very hard to please. It leaves a lot to the imagination over the traditional story. 13mo

I really enjoyed this graphic novel adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. I thought the illustrations really capture the mood of the book - so beautiful. Sure, it doesn‘t have the detail of the novel but the author and illustrator clearly love the original book and have done a great job of paying homage to it.

A big fat Meh. The illustrations are gorgeous, as evidenced by the pictures, but the adaptation was less than ideal. Or at least it wasn't what I wanted.

My favorite quote, making me so excited for Fall, in an excellent graphic novel adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Though sometimes it felt rushed, I think it definitely hits the highlights of the book, and the art is beautiful. Also, after having read Kindred in graphic novel form, I'm a huge fan of this concept.

#BackToReading #AugustGrrrl

Earlier this year you'd have been right if you'd said to me "Graphic novels are #NotYourNormalGenre." They held no appeal for me and you could have hardly made me read one. Now, over half way through the year and I find myself turning #TimeAfterTime to this genre willingly and eagerly. I don't remember which title it was that drew me in, but I'm here to stay! ?

These ones I've already got copies of. Thanks NetGalley!

Cinfhen I've tried GN, not my thing but glad u are learning to enjoy them💗 2y
