So glad I didn‘t actually spend money on this one. The characters are ridiculous and pretty much none of their actions make a bit of sense.

After just finishing the first in the series and having already read the second a few months ago, I figured I may as well read this one too so it could go back to the library. Still a cute series where I like people but the mystery itself is kind of light.

Had read the second book in the series already, but still wanted to read the first to see what had been missed. Cute enough first book, heavy on characters and their everyday lives and light on actual mystery.

This one just jumped to the top of the pile since it's due back at the library on Tuesday and no renewals allowed.

Was hoping for more with this one. I liked it overall but it was slow to get started, the characters were difficult to engage with, and the ending a little too pat.

Super fun day helping my dad celebrate his 70th birthday! We went bookstore hopping - four stores over five hours. This is my stack - his is about twice as big.

VioletBramble Sounds like a great birthday. 7y

This was given to me by my MIL about 4 years ago and I've never really paid much attention to it. I think I had a vague notion it was some kind of ghost story, the cover helped with that impression. However it ended up being a really good small southern town story that delved into the ugly racist past of the town and the repercussions felt today. The main character of Jolie was a joy to read about - very strong, fair, with a great sense of self.

Thank you @VioletBramble for picking my favorite color - green! At first I though it would be hard, but the Easton Press books helped. I forgot to include the Jane Austen books from the Everyman Library collection.

VioletBramble Nice! I love the green on the Collector's Wodehouse. 7y

This was a delightful, charming mystery that's unlike almost any others - a musician in Ireland, ghosts, and a decades old murder. The main chapter is smart, funny, and appreciate a good bourbon. What's not to love about her? Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Wonderful book about the town of Gander who took in lots of plane people after the US airspace closed on 9/11. Fed into my current obsession with the musical Come From Away which is based on the same events.

I'm thinking there is a reason that nobody else seems to own this book. It wasn't really that bad but as a mystery it wasn't as cohesive as I would have liked. Plus most of the characters seemed very unhappy and hard to root for.

The Way of All Flesh | SAMUEL BUTLER

Reading this book and can't help but think of the lyrics from the musical "She Loves Me" - makes me giggle.

Then all of a sudden, he said that I
couldn't go wrong with "The Way of all Flesh."
Of course it's a novel, but I didn't know,
or I certainly wouldn't have smacked him!
