Ruin and Rising | Leigh Bardugo

❤️ Oh, Nikolai ❤️ I absolutely loved this series and read it way too fast. The way Leigh Bardugo describes emotions is the exact way they feel to me, so this book gave me so many feels. I wasn't thrilled with the ending. I really thought it would turn out the way I was hoping, but I forgive it for that because the story that led us there was so rich and wonderful.

I absolutely loved going back into the wizarding world again. I loved seeing Snape again, and that he was allowed the knowledge that Albus was named after him. I loved the redemption of Draco and the heart of Scorpius. I loved the depth of the friendship between Albus and Scorpius. I loved that Harry was imperfect and unlikable at times. Yeah, I loved it. This was an excellent close to the series.

MrBook Nice review and pic! 😊👍🏻 8y

Words can't describe how much I loved this series. The worlds are so beautiful and rich, the characters so deep and multi-faceted. "We'll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams... And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won't just be able to take one, they'll have to take two, one of you and one of me, we'll be joined so tight."

My final project for my Green Schools class is to create an 8-hour outdoor classroom teacher training program. I gathered up a just a *few* of my favorite books on the subject to refer to 🤓

As my form of therapy for spending an arm and a leg on school supplies, and the reality of both of my kids being in school this year, I paid a visit to the library. Now to decide which to read first...

I really enjoyed this book! It was a very quick read. The writing was a bit clunky and juvenile at times, but it didn't detract much from the really great premise of the book. It was fun, beautiful, and suspenseful. I'm ready to start the second of the series.

"Seems to me the place you fight cruelty is where you find it, and the place you give help is where you see it needed." ~Lee Scoresby The 2nd book of His Dark Materials was just as beautiful as the 1st. I loved the multiple world-building and how much more he developed all the characters.

Deciding which bookmark to use (all made for me by my daughter) is almost as hard as deciding which book to read next!

I love the Guardian series so much. I love William Joyce's writing style, I love reading them aloud with my children, and I love the illustrations. They are gorgeous books. We are currently halfway through Sandman, which is book four in the series.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters and their motivations were believable, there was plenty of world-building, and the battle of good vs evil wasn't as clearcut as I expected it to be. I especially loved the not-so-subtle secular leanings. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

This started rather slow but it was recommended to me so I wanted to give it a fair chance. I'm glad I did! I'm a bit more than halfway through now and loving it.

The Magicians: A Novel | Lev Grossman
Bailedbailed

Ugh. Another one bites the dust. I'm about a hundred pages in, and all but ONE female character has been described solely in terms of the main character's desire and/or ability (or lack thereof) to sleep with her. No thank you.

beccaeve I made it through this one, but I don't think I'm going on with the series. It didn't really have an ending and a friend warned me there is no ending until the end of the series. I wish I would have bailed sooner... 8y

I'm feeling a little discouraged after bailing on 2/3 of the last books I picked, so I hope these grab me!

anotherbookgirl My kid (the 19-yr-old) really enjoyed The Name of the Wind and I've heard good buzz about The Magicians, but I haven't read either, yet. Have you read The Girl With No Shadow by Joanne Harris or The Bell at Sealey Head by Patricia McKillip? 8y
anotherbookgirl It's hard to find something to follow Harry Potter. I really loved The Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix. The first book is Sabriel. I think it's shelved in the teen section of the library. 8y

Bailedbailed

I just couldn't get into this book. I didn't care for the writing style or the twisted fairy tale theme.

Sparkpuppypup I bailed on this one, too 8y
anotherbookgirl I confess I didn't get very far, so I might not have given it a fair shake. I really liked the cover and the description, but once I started reading, I just wasn't liking it. 8y
Claudia.joyce @anotherbookgirl I wanted to like it because it seemed like a clever idea for a book. But if a book doesn't grab me within a hundred pages I just can't keep with it. 8y
anotherbookgirl Yes, I am really protective of what reading time I have - I don't want to squander it on books that I'm not enjoying. Sometimes that may make me miss something good, but I'm okay with that. 8y

I'm having a very hard time getting into this book even though I really wanted to like it. It switches subject, time, and setting so often, and has so many characters that it's just rather muddled to me. Does it improve or should I bail?

meradigan1 I have heard that and thats why i put it off 8y

This was a very quick, easy read. A great book with characters you come to love and hate. It's a nice twist on the typical dystopian zombie book.

anotherbookgirl I'm not really a fan of dystopias (I know, I'm practically the only one on the planet who doesn't love dystopian stories), but this one does sound very interesting and I'm tempted. 8y
Claudia.joyce @anotherbookgirl The interaction between the characters was so good that it may hold your interest. 8y

I stopped at the library to find a book full of magic and wonder. I came home with these four. I'll start them all, then buy the ones that grab me.

Now it's the kids' turn! We are reading the illustrated version aloud (and listening to the audiobook to give my voice a break). They are loving it!
