Dear Martin | Nic Stone

Dear Martin and its follow-up Dear Justyce: These are both amazing, eye-opening, and heartbreaking. Both depict the social injustices that people of color (in particular, males) are faced with every.single.day. No matter what. I finished these and immediately shared with my cousin. #socialjustice #socialinjustice #nicstone #yareads #blacklivesmatter #checkyourprivilege

The Teacher Misery books crack me up; precisely because they‘re just so relevant! I definitely liked how this one had both positive and negative experiences. Also, confession: I authored one of the anecdotes in this book...

I‘m working to educate myself, because I‘ve realized I‘m so much more ignorant than I ever imagined. This book...read it. Embrace it. Learn from it. Let it make you think and help you grow. #blacklivesmatter #sayhername

I haven‘t seen the show (but I really want to!), so when I saw they had turned it into a novel I was so excited! Did not disappoint, read it :-) #dearevanhansen #bookrec #readit

“To deal with the worst-case scenarios presented in this book, we highly recommend—insist, actually—that the best course of action is to consult a professionally trained expert. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNDERTAKE ANY OF THE ACTIVITIES DESCRIBED IN THIS BOOK YOURSELF.”

I loved this book! If I could have read it in one sitting, I would have (but, toddler). I was a little apprehensive at first, because I couldn‘t get in to other books by this author, but so glad I tried it! #bookrec #readit

As a teacher, I really liked this book! There were definitely some cringe-worthy bits, and times when I thought, “ohhh honey” about the characters, BUT I appreciated how it showed that teachers are only human and are often up against a ton of crap. #teacherbook #teachernerd #iteach #bookrec #roxannaelden

“Careful now, darlin‘. Too thick and the crust won‘t cook through. No one wants a soggy-bottomed pie. Soggy bottoms are always unfortunate.” Shades of Mary Berry, anyone? #greatbritishbakeoff

*Sigh* I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn‘t get into it. It felt contrived, to me. But in all fairness, maybe it‘s just not my thing, and someone else could think it‘s amazing! To each their own 😊.

I was amazingly lucky to get to go to RCA for a professional development four years ago, and afterward I bought Crash Course because during our time in Kim Bearden‘s classroom it was like she was speaking into my teacher-soul! I felt the same way reading this book, and revisit it whenever some career uplifting! #teacherbook #booknerd #teachernerd #bookworm #iteach #iread #rca #kimbearden #readtorelax #bookrec

I‘ve been a fairly loyal Mitch Albom reader since someone gave me Tuesdays With Morrie to read ages ago. However, I‘ve often found that after finishing a new one, I‘m disappointed. It took this most recent Albom book for me to figure it out: I love the books where the focus is something he actually experienced, rather than a purely fictional tale. Thank you to Finding Chika for the revelation, and for pulling at my heartstrings ♥️.
