Puffin Classics Little Women
Puffin Classics Little Women | Louisa May Alcott
Meg is the eldest and on the brink of love. Then there's tomboy Jo who longs to be a writer. Sweet-natured Beth always puts others first, and finally there's Amy, the youngest and most precocious. Together they are the March sisters. Even though money is short, times are tough and their father is away at war, their infectious sense of fun sweeps everyone up in their adventures - including Laurie, the boy next door. And through sisterly squabbles, their happy times and sad ones too, the sisters discover that growing up is sometimes very hard to do. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is one of the twenty wonderful classic stories being reissued in Puffin Classics in March 2015.

My Little Women books that have been well loved.

Rereading and remembering my Grandma -one of the loves of my life! She was a feminist and outspoken and β€œnaughty” πŸ˜‚β™₯️✊🏼. FYI there wasn‘t truly a word or even spoken feminist but that‘s what she was. ✊🏼β™₯️

My daughter got me a new fancy copy I‘ll post it next.

This book is so heartwarming and a great reminder of the important things in life. I love the authors ability to paint such a vivid picture of every characters personality and how although very different are all very much alike. Sisterhood, family, love, humility, honesty, respect, admiration, are all very present throughout to display the importance of kindness and grace. No questions asked on why this book is considered a classic novel.

#Reading1001

I made it to today‘s years old before I read this American classic.

A sweet story about 4 sisters which does get a bit preachy and saccharine at points but that didn‘t detract much from my enjoyment.

Jo was definitely the highlight of this book although Laurie has his moments.

Hooked_on_books I‘ve still never read it 🫒 10mo

I have watched both the 2019 (top) and the 1994 (bottom). Personally I like the 1994 version much more than the 2019 version for a number of reasons, including that the 1994 version cast Laurie better than the 2019 version. So of these two versions, which do you like better? #littlewomen #movieadaptations

Scochrane26 I‘ve only seen the recent one, somehow never watched the 1994 one. 1y

I rewatch and reread Little Women every December in memory of my Bubbe -who loved the original movie which I currently cannot find, however, the Winona I watched last night is my favorite. (I did not like the new one at all, story was fine acting…notsomuch.) I consider it a Christmas movie πŸ˜‚πŸŽ„β™₯οΈπŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Finished Little Women for a book club last month. Had such a great discussion. I definitely thought I‘d read this as a young adult, but I‘m fairly certain I had only watched the movie version πŸ™Š I‘m glad I read this, but it was dense. The poems and newsletter, I could have done without. Overall 4⭐️

1. I have a few! The 1994 version of β€œLittle Women” with Winona Ryder. I just adore Jo March and my daughter Josephine is named for her. Another great one is β€œMisery.” Kathy Bates is simply phenomenal in it!

2. I would love to see β€œThe Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” on the big screen. It would have beautiful cinematography and would be a tear-jerker. I love crying from movies. Haha.

It's old-fashioned and preachy, but I never get tired of Alcott's fiercely feminist story and four of my fave ladies: Meg, so good and proper, yet a little vain; Queen Jo, "a girl who was rapidly shooting up into a woman, and didn't like it" (was ever anything so relatable?); Beth aka Little #Tranquility, so-called by Useless Mr. March; and Amy, "a most important person- in her own opinion at least." #BlueCover #JumpIntoJanuary #InspiredNewYear

Little Women is a well-loved classic. Unfortunately, it failed to win me over. For me, a classic is a story that stands the test of time, one that contains characters or situations that resonate through time. Little Women felt every bit its age, and rather than a fully fleshed out novel it reads more like a series of vignettes about the March family. It is cozy and quaint, but just far too old-fashioned for my tastes. ⭐️⭐️ #ThatsClassic

AlaMich I didn‘t even like it that much when I read it as a kid. I remember thinking it was sort of dull. 2y
MsMelissa @AlaMich this was my first time reading it and I have wondered if I may have felt differently had I read it was I was a kid, but I doubt it. I also found it dull, and that large sections could be skipped without missing a thing. 2y
AlaMich @Book_Fiend_Melissa Someone gave me a set of Little Women dolls back then which I liked more than the book. 😊 2y

Re-read this for November #thatsclassic and I‘m so glad I did. Sure, it‘s a bit preachy and slow paced at times, but when it‘s good it‘s so very good β€”a warm, cozy comfort read with many enduring truths that make it a classic. MsMelissa I‘m struggling to finish 😒 I really don‘t like it. It reads more like a series of vignettes than a novel. 2y
