Please excuse me getting on my soapbox for a minute, but I saw that the #DynamicDs prompt for today is #DifferentlyAbled

Can we just not with the “differently abled” language? I‘m disabled. So is my sister, my cousin, and some of my friends. I‘ve been a part of disability groups politically/professionally. We either use “disabled” or “person w/ a disability.”

Tagged is good if you want to learn. Pic of sister‘s invisibly disabled cat for tax.

shortsarahrose Here‘s a pretty good summary about why you should use disabled rather than differently abled: https://www.betterup.com/blog/differently-abled 2d
shortsarahrose And more books about disability for those interested: https://www.charisbooksandmore.com/disabilityanti-ableism-booklist 2d

ncsufoxes Agreed! I love this tagged book. It‘s a great primer for people that want to learn more about the disability community. 💕 2d
dabbe Thank you so much for posting this and for your links. I am much more enlightened thanks to you! 💙🩵💙 2d
shortsarahrose @dabbe Thank you for your kind words! 💜 2d
lil1inblue Thank you for the correction, as well as for the resources. I appreciate that you took the time to teach us. 💓 2d
shortsarahrose Thank you @lil1inblue 💜 This is why I love Litsy - people are open to talk and learn (rather than just argue like every other social media site). I know I‘ve learned from others on here over the years. 2d

How to Be an Antiracist | Ibram X. Kendi
post image

“Which is why we must actively antiracist” (last line that got cut off). Ibram X. Kendi posted this the other day & it definitely needs to be repeating. What they are pushing so hard against is why we need to push back harder.

Readergrrl I have been following Dr. Kendi on multiple social media platforms. It makes me sad that admitting to this in some states is enough to get me fired. I‘m so grateful to live in a state where diversity, equity, inclusion, AND access is still valued. 4w
ncsufoxes @Readergrrl same here. My kids have gone to school in CA, MA, & now MD. All states that continue to teach diversity, equity, & inclusion principles. MD has doubled down & so has our district on promoting these values more than ever. 4w
Readergrrl @ncsufoxes This makes me so happy to hear. I don‘t understand how our country can head down this path. It is simply insane. 4w

I attended an author event, this past week, with Rebecca Thorne for the third book in her Tomes and Tea series, and a book was part of the ticket price. So technically that.

But before that, after *makes sweeping gesture at November* I bought the tagged book, along with Prequel by Rachel Maddow and Democracy Awakening by Heather Cox Richardson.

#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts!

konlitsy The last book I bought was Dance Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami, but it's still chilling on my TBR pile for now.

A phenomenal non-fiction book and movie recommendation for #blackhistorymonth.

My masters is in forensic psychology so this story is powerful to me. Heartbreaking, motivating, educational and important too. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for each.

And Michael B. Jordan is my #1 celebrity crush... let's be honest here. He's beautiful to look at. Watch it. Read it.

TiredLibrarian This is a great book. 1mo
ncsufoxes My son read this in high school & loved it. He took an ethnic literature course for his senior language requirement (this was 3 years ago & it was a pilot class his school in San Diego was testing out). We have a copy that I need to pull & read. 1mo

It‘s said that MLK Jr. was inspired by Thurman‘s work & often carried a copy of this book with him. Published in 1949, Thurman‘s insightful wisdom is (unfortunately) still fresh & relevant today. Thurman discusses how hatred destroys both the oppressor & the disinherited—and offers Jesus and the truth of the Gospel as an example to follow, in love and in resistance. It was the second time I‘ve read this, and I got even more out of it this time.

The subtitle of We Still Here covers the main topics within: pandemic, policing, protest, and possibility. This book was published in 2020 and is organized in interviews format. The chapters Justice for “All” and Whose Violence? were especially powerful.

julieclair The title kind of says it all, doesn‘t it. Sounds like an important book. 👍 1mo

This picture book is about standing up for others and wanting to change the world. How when you can‘t use your voice find other ways to do it until you can find your voice. This book is well written the illustrations are amazing and this is an altogether five star read. I will be picking up other books by Stacy Abrams .

This book is aimed at organizers, but I highly recommend it even if you (like me) don‘t intend to do any organizing. It‘s full of information, both actionable and philosophical. This is a book we need in this time of terrifying fascists destroying our government.
