Current audiobook! I received a review copy from the author. It‘s not my usual type of book but I‘ve just heard so much good about this book and the author is a really nice guy so I figured I‘d give it a try. Some people plan their TBRs, some people mood read. Lately I do FOMO reading a lot. 😂

50% through this one and not really impressed. I finished the first one this week and didn‘t much enjoy that one either. I think one thing I‘ve realized this year is that I have gotten much pickier with my fantasy novels. There needs to be good world building and character development in them for me to like them. This one lacks both to be honest.

I'll be honest: Sometimes I judge a book by its cover. Whaat? And this was one of them. I know I had to read it as soon as I saw it and the blurb solidified it. Since then, I have heard so many good things about it. I finally picked it up on a whim one morning and was not able to put it down until I finished it completely that same day!

“This book is raw and honest and everything it needs to be. There is no happy ending, at least not the type we would all love to see with a cure and forever love and butterflies and flowers. But it has an ending that may feel familiar to others with chronic illnesses or hopefully at least spark some hope.”

A memoir about suicide & depression I knew I had to read as soon as I saw it. I listened to it thanks to my library but I know I will buy a print copy soon bc there is just so much great info in here. It even helped me with my own issues with anxiety & depression. I highly recommend this read bc there are so many facts in here!

I was so excited to be approved for book 2 of The Ramparts Trilogy as soon as I requested it on NetGalley. Koli is as charming as ever & it was fun to have a 2nd narrator as well, even if she is a little more self-serving than our sweet Koli-boo. We learn so much about Ingland in this book & I can't wait for the last one! Check out my review here:

This book had me hooked right from the start & I read almost the entire thing in one day! It's set in a dystopian futuristic Ingland, eh England I mean, and has the most charming narrator! Book 2 is out already & 3 will be soon!

Tracyantoon I was #1 on the hold list for this audiobook at my library. Just downloaded it and can‘t wait to get started! Yay!!! I see there‘s 4 appendices in the end. Am I missing out by not having a physical copy of this? 4y
TheShaggyShepherd @Tracyantoon Jennifer Hale does narrate the appendices as well! And you get a bonus interview between her and Paolini on the audiobook. The only thing you‘re missing out on by not having a print copy is the artwork. It is beautiful but the audiobook still is so worth it! I highly recommend listening. 4y

{Audiobook}

I haven‘t finished my review yet but wow! I wasn‘t even a murder mystery fan before this but she‘s got me hooked! I need to read all of her books! She‘s a try master of her trade. I‘m generally pretty good at predicting the few mysteries I do read but there was no guessing for me with this one (besides maybe the relationship development). This is a fantastic story and audiobook!

#audiobook #allthedevilsarehere #netgalleyarc

katy4peas Do you need to read them in order or can they be read as stand-alones? I couldn‘t get into the first book and tried several times... is he more likeable later in the series? Is there a title I should start with? Are they super gory? Thanks! 4y
TheShaggyShepherd @katy4peas This is actually only the second book I read in this series! I liked the first one (Still Life) alright. Enough to try another but wasn‘t a favorite. This one though I really do like a lot. There‘s enough explanations about his family and relationships in the first few chapters that you‘re fine reading them out of order. It‘s not really gory at all. I love how it focuses on his relationships and how much they change in this book. 4y
TheShaggyShepherd @katy4peas I struggled with some of the female voices of the male narrator but eventually it wasn‘t too bad. He does a really great job of narrating the story overall. 4y
katy4peas Oh thanks. I might have to give it a try. 4y

While reading this book, I was also following live videos of the #BLM protests around the country. The back & forth between this fictional story & the current events made this an even more compelling read & highlights why these issues need to be addressed right now, not later, not tomorrow, not next year, so that – finally – MY America can become THEIR America as well.

I chose this book bc it‘s at an animal sanctuary. It had a very slow start for me. I expected to read it & be done w/it. But it got to me. Maybe the animal sanctuary & the way the characters related to them made it more familiar to me. In the end, this book was more about feelings & decisions than animals, but that‘s okay. By the time I finished, this turned into one of my faves this year.

TheShaggyShepherd I really needed to write more on here. These few characters can‘t convey how much I enjoy some books. 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wow. This book. I‘ve been reading for hours cause I couldn‘t stand the thought of putting it down without finishing it. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire way through. I‘m a huge fan of having two timelines and this one was so well done. Cons below. // My foster Max is finally learning how to dog.

TheShaggyShepherd While the story itself kept me sucked in though, there were definitely some issues with the execution of the idea. The author really made the professionals at the end out to be the bad guys, perhaps discouraging some readers from seeking help themselves. I also wasn‘t a fan of how she portrayed Shelley who seemed like such a good friend beforehand. The twist was easily predictable but her writing kept you pulled in anyways. 4y

Max is such a good model for my new creations. Sadly he was returned two weeks ago because the new family just was not a good fit for this undersocialized, skittish, but oh so wonderful pup. So he‘s back on the market looking for his perfect forever home. Such a handsome man. #adoptme #faync

Buechersuechtling Oh, I always feel sad when people return animals. I mean, come on, do they also return their children or partner just because they are sometimes difficult⁉️😠 But I know that it‘s of course better that they return them instead of just marooning them at the next fuel station.⛽️ – And: I am not a dog person, but he looks so cuddly. I might have a crush 🥰 on him. 4y
TheShaggyShepherd @Buechersuechtling I actually suggested to the family to return him. The mom was very attached but it just wasn‘t the right place for him. She was really relieved when I suggested it because she had been scared to bring it up. But in time, he‘ll find the right place. And he actually dislikes cuddling because he‘s too scared for more than a nose book and a couple scratches so far. Haha 4y
