A Breath of Snow and Ashes
A Breath of Snow and Ashes | Diana Gabaldon
Eagerly anticipated by her legions of fans, this sixth novel in Diana Gabaldons bestselling Outlander saga is a masterpiece of historical fiction from one of the most popular authors of our time.Since the initial publication of Outlander fifteen years ago, Diana Gabaldons New York Times bestselling saga has won the hearts of readers the world over and sold more than twelve million books. Now, A Breath of Snow and Ashes continues the extraordinary story of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest. With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamies death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future. From the Hardcover edition.

I have reached my limit with family. Good thing I have this chunkster to get back to (597 pages to go) and we go home tomorrow. Short first world problem gripe: my sister has apparently taken to getting everyone books off of my Amazon wishlist. This removes the books from the list without them coming to me. She makes me want to tear my hair out! That list is carefully curated specially for me and over 10 years old. 🤬

Nute Oh, I‘m not even sure I know what to say!😱 Maybe try explaining how the Amazon wishlist works one more time, and throw in that part about “the careful 10-year curation.” That ought to do it!👍🏽 Good luck and positive vibes!🤗 3w
Sace I'm also speechless 😱 and 🤬. 3w

Amandajoy Why? Can it be password protected? 3w
Bookwormjillk What?? I can see going to your list for ideas, but why would she take them off?? Craziness. I‘m glad you have a book to escape with. 3w
BookNAround @Amandajoy The problem is that if I password protect it against her, she can‘t see it for gifts for me either. I may propose we no longer buy for adults and then ban her from it if that‘s possible. 3w
BookNAround @Bookwormjillk She just doesn‘t get out of my list before she buys for others. It‘s an extra step she can‘t be bothered with. She just shrugged and said I could ask mom and dad for the books once they‘re finished with them but that doesn‘t help me with her mother in law. 3w
DGRachel Not that you should have to go to extra work for her laziness and selfishness, but could you set up a second mirrored Amazon wishlist and make the second one private? That way, you'd have your carefully curated list, untouched, and she can run roughshod through the other. 3w
LeahBergen 😡😡😡 3w
Lauram On the Amazon app there is an option to keep purchased items on your list. 3w
Leftcoastzen Holy Crap! She needs a kick in the pants!Unreal! I‘m hopeful you can do a private list on Amazon.A techno way to be a bit of a Scrooge. I‘m so sorry. Enjoy your book. 3w

I‘m surprised by how good this turned out to be. The last several books prior have all had an episodic feel to them - the mis/adventures of the Frasers and Mackenzies - but this one‘s story arch felt a little more complete/rounded and had more resolution. (I may be wrong here though, I‘ve been listening for months and have lost track of some of the details.) Still, I was ready to take a break from the series but now I‘m itching to start the next!

Getting back into #audiostitching as I finish up this behemoth of an audiobook that I‘ve been chugging through for months. 🚂 (Don‘t be deceived; the Outlander series is my favorite series of all time. When I really like a book I race through it, but when I LOVE a book and it really resonates with me on some fundamental level, I inch through and make it last as long as possible. Thus, I‘ve been working on this series for 4.5 years.)

I finally finished this one. I love the Outlander characters, but the books are so long that I get burnt out. How many times can they be kidnapped, raped, or almost killed? I‘ll eventually read the next 2 though.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ more in comments

Scochrane26 A major frustration with this one—several inconsistencies from previous books. This is often a problem w/ series, & I‘m assuming is poor editing. If I can remember details over several yrs, then I feel an author and editors should, too (it‘s their job). 6mo
TheSpineView I fee6your frustration. I made it 1/2 through book 5 and called the series quits. 6mo

To me, this one felt a bit like “filler” to get somewhere, but at the same time, it (mostly) kept my interest. A few big things happened as time went on, but much of it was day-to-day. Those big things picked the action up for a while as each one happened. There was something missing (in my opinion) that I would have liked to have “seen” just before the epilogue. I thought maybe that would be part of the next books, but I guess not.

This book made me so happy. It took me so long to get through books 4 and 5 in this series, and this one took SO much less time. It made me feel the same way as I did when I was reading the first couple books in the series! If you are hesitant to continue in the series, especially after The Fiery Cross, this one will bring you back to the classic Outlander feel that you likely crave!

baes That was my absolute favorite! ❤️❤️❤️❤️Sadly, I think that‘s where Outlander truly ended for me. I‘m trying to finish book 8, but it is a struggle. 7mo

Every time I start another of hers, I am a little daunted by the 1,000+ pages but I settle into it like a comfy, soft cushion of love and historical fiction. Then with 300 pages left I start feeling sad it's going to be over. Jamie and Claire. Brianna and Roger. Too many others to name. So many amazing, complex relationships to fall in love with.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Omg. This was amazing. My favorite book of the Outlander series so far - I could hardly put it down. I loved everything about it, and am now interested in Brianna & Roger‘s story as well (I was irritated with so much of them before). But this book was all about Claire for me, and wow is all I have to say. Also, as a fan of the show, I cannot wait to see it played out in season 6. ❤️

Another hit from Diana Gabaldon. This one, like the last one, was slow at parts for me, but it had enough intrigue to keep me going. There's a lot of action to make up for the slow parts. I'm always impressed by her historical research and knowledge of the areas that she's writing about. I know that I've said this before, but being from NC, it's almost thrilling to read about places that I've been to and know well. 4 out of 5 stars.

I FINALLY FINISHED!

I think like most people that LOVE this series, I've always found this book to be slow and considered it more of a "filler" book in the series. I do love the ending "status" we get with Claire and my dream husband vs. Bri and Roger. Onward with the series reread!

This was my second reading of this book and I think I enjoyed it more the second time around. A lot of things happen to the characters in the book, and there is sexual violence that I didn‘t care for. But the story moves pretty quickly (far quicker then the tv show). And I find myself anxiously awaiting the newest book (hopefully it will be published soon!).

Finished the 6th installment of the outlander series. Liked this one a lot more then the one before. To me the medical stuff in this book was more interesting and I love when the characters drive the story. Yes there were a lot of kidnappings in this book but I‘m not mad at it. Throw in some good American Revolution stuff and I am all in. Totally redeemed from the last book!
