I‘m only a little bit ashamed at how helpful I‘m finding the Lord of the Rings references.
I would give this book a high 3 stars. I picked it up because I really enjoy the author‘s twitter presence (and clear love for Captain America 💕) even though I‘m not really in to D/S. But, I really liked the relationship at the center of the novel and the soap opera elements in the story. This was an enjoyable read.
It is really hard to listen/read books that have descriptions of intimate partner abuse. But, I‘m really interested in this story of this nerdy Dominican American kid. #24in48
Not really into stepsiblings or dom/sub, but it‘s interesting to read outside your interests sometimes. Really liking Naya and Lachlan as characters.
“You are many. And, you are helpful, and your are kind. But, meaning well is not doing well. You mean well, but you do not do well.”
This novel is so weird and I am really enjoying it. (That‘s a really terrible photo of the most recent full moon.)
this is a lovely tale of a portrait artist and a prince of fairy. There is adventure, danger, mystery, romance. I tore through this book and I really, really loved it
“I was ravenous. I was sore. I was terrified. And yet looking at Rook I imagined a cat proudly bringing its master dead chipmunks...” I love this imagery so much.
Human tried to explain consent to a fairy. For some reason, I‘d think with the magic they‘d be better at it?
“He was arrogant verging on insufferable but god—the power he possessed. And here he was, as confused as a child by his own emotions...” So, he saw the Gillette ad, then? 😂
“well, at least she didn‘t swallow it,” I reasoned, lunging after the moist and traumatized creature.”
New band name: The moist and traumatized creatures
“They looked like a pair of cupid‘s who had decided they liked shooting people with real arrows better. They were horrible. I loved them so much.” Welp. I‘ve found my favorite characters in this book.
Can‘t catch a break. I‘m concerned I might not make it to the end of any audiobooks this month!
My library audiobook of Circe expired close to the end of the book. Argh! I need to know what happens next! So, I‘m hoping this will get me through. I‘m on chapter 2 and so far, so good.
Narcissus in Chains wraps up a bunch of story lines from previous books. The drama with Narcissus frames all of wrap up of things going on in Anita‘s life and it is kind of incidental. I enjoyed this, and I could stop reading the series here, honestly. I won‘t, of course 😉
My carpool buddy and I started a new audiobook this morning! I can‘t wait to find out what happens next in this saga!
“her thoughts are like fleas, jumping directionless, with no intention but to irritate.” That‘s the best way to describe what might be one of the worst mental states.
Language change is so neat. We see were now and we think, “oh, shape shifter, werewolf, werelion, wereweasel, great.” So, we understand that a panwere would be someone who could shift into multiple animals. But, were- is related to words like virile. It‘s the man part of the word...or it was before it became the part of the word that marked shifter 😉
“That‘s unusual in a woman. Most of them can‘t stand the thought of silence. They talk and talk and talk.” I don‘t know why I‘d expect the villain to not be a total misogynist. I suppose there really isn‘t a ceiling on how gross and terrible a person you can be. But, still, I find myself surprised.
“All these months I‘d been worried I‘d fail the wereleopards. I thought failure meant them dying, or getting hurt. What I realized suddenly was that the true failure would have been if I hadn‘t given a damn. You can bandage a wound, set a broken bone, but not caring...you can‘t cure that, and you can‘t recover from it.” Wow. Now, that‘s a good growth arc across this series.
“I looked at the slim black phone. If only had it a few months. I‘d tried not to buy one. If you had a cell phone and a beeper you were never truly free of the office.” one of the things I‘m enjoying about reading the early Anita Blake books is that they‘re pre-cell phone. It was a different world.

The cat was comfortable, so I started a new book instead of moving him to get one of the books I‘m already reading
Oh, man. It kills me that she realizes she‘s basically a supporting character in Odysseus‘s story and that she‘s basically fixing him up for Penelope
“Lois rolls her eyes as a default expression in response to much of what I say, but honestly, if I weren‘t around acting as her social conscience, she would always choose a free drink for herself over fair wages for the bartender pouring it.” To be fair, it‘s hard to say no to free margaritas. Still tho.
Not even a quarter of the way in, and I can already tell this book is going to make me sad. I hope it also elicits other emotions 😊
