Adriana Trigiani, Big Stone gap
Haven‘t read this, but love this quote.
“Your heart is full of blood, your gut is literally full of crap, so it‘s best to follow your brain instead.” I feel like this is really solid advice!
“Grief and Love occur in Tandem.”
Please help!
“It was in a way a comforting idea; if there was all the time in the world, then the happenings of a given moment became less important. I could see, perhaps, how one could draw back a little, seek some respite in the contemplation of an endless Being, whatever one conceived its nature to be.”
“We can only go to the limits of ourselves-I‘ve learned that if nothing else. Anything more and we give too much away. Then we‘re not good for anyone.”
Though not as funny as his stand up, it did make me laugh. It was an easy read, and lighthearted.
It is illegal to yell “fire” in a crowded theater. If there is a fire, please yell something else instead, like “Flames!” or “Smokemaker!” or “Badhot!”
Drunken behavior will not be tolerated, except by those who are being hilarious. Please turn off all cell phones and pagers. And if you have a pager, please return it to the 90‘s.
Just ordered this book! So excited to read it, I love his stand up comedy!
I had the pure sense that I couldn‘t ever truly lose the past, or forget what any of it had meant.
“Sometimes when you're hurting, it helps to throw yourself at something that will take your weight.”
All my students rave about this book! I commented to one of them that it was on my “To Read” list, and this showed up on my desk the next day in pretty polka dot wrapping! So, we‘re reading it together! I‘m so blessed!
This “Pedal Powered Library” visited the kids I work with and gave them free books every week this summer! It‘s been so fun to watch them get excited about reading with their new books!
Help! Where in the world does a person buy an affordable audio book? They were $40+ at Barnes and Noble, and they had one shelf to choose from! I need a good title for a Birthday present for a book lover loosing their eyesight.
I tried reading it on my phone, but I needed a physical copy. I found this beautiful leather bound edition at a used book store. The kind of store that smells like you walked inside a hundred year old book, where the shelves are overflowing, and every surface including the floor is covered with book stacks. It was glorious!
I wanted a good laugh tonight, so I started re-reading this gem! So funny!
"The mightiest power of death is not that it can make people die, but that it can make the people left behind want to stop living."
"Never mess with someone who has more spare time than you do," Granny used to say.
"It's strange how close love and fear live to each other."
Has anyone read this? I think I need it! 😂
"People in the real world always say, when something terrible happens, that the sadness and loss and aching pain of the heart will “lessen as time passes,” but it isn‘t true. Sorrow and loss are constant, but if we all had to go through our whole lives carrying them the whole time, we wouldn‘t be able to stand it. The sadness would paralyze us. So in the end we just pack it into bags and find somewhere to leave it."
"Having a grandmother is like having an army. This is a grandchild's ultimate privilege: knowing that someone is on your side, always, whatever the details. Even when you are wrong. Especially then, in fact."
"Most of the great triumphs and tragedies of history are caused not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally evil, but by people being fundamentally people."
I finished it!! I found this difficult to get through, and for the first time I can say I liked the movie better than the book. I'm glad I read it though!
Not what I went to the thrift store for, but they look so good!
Appropriate quote for today from one of my favorite books.
"An unprotected childhood in a cold world has beaten gentleness out of me."
