After finals, I needed something easy to read but still entertaining - middle grade fantasy it is! I never read Eragon as a kid but I needed some dragons in my life. It's a super rainy day here which means I will be reading all day long

Something about a plain black book is so appealing to me.
End of the semester is here, which means the end of my undergrad. It's so surreal to think I'm finishing this amazing journey online but alas, that's the way it is. It also brings new beginnings, like starting my Master's degree in the fall and (hopefully) new job in a few weeks!
2.5 ⭐
I get where the author was going with the whole "everyone is nameless except the bad guy" but I felt totally disconnected throughout the story and the anonymity did not help. Beautifully written, but the pacing was way too slow and the action was over before it even started!
This isnt grabbing me the way I expected it to. I'm not at all invested in our main character and I'm about halfway through.. definitely going to finish it but probably won't continue with the series
Kate Morton always humbles me as a reader - just when I think I have the ending figured out, she sticks one last twist in to remind you that she is a master story weaver. Finished this one this morning and I just can't stop thinking about it!
Just a lazy Sunday here. I think I'm on a historical fiction kick and Kate Morton never disappoints
This was SO GOOD. Loved the story, but did feel like the pacing was a little wonky. Really enjoyed it though! 4/5 ⭐
First read of 2021! I finished off 2020 reading 2 graphic novels (Nimona and Coraline) and then took a bit of a reading break. Didn't get as much reading done over the holidays as I had hoped, but I got a full set of new knitting needles that have been keeping me busy 🧶
This did not need to be 1000 pages long.
I did it- I finally finished this 😴 while it did get better past the 600 page mark, the ending was very.. meh. I LOVE long books, but only if the length is justified and this just wasn't. It absolutely could have been ~500 pages and it would have been so much more enjoyable!
2.5/5 stars
Can't tell from this picture but it's a snowy day here, perfect for reading ❄ still powering through this one, hoping I can finish it soon. It's becoming less of a chore to pick up so.. I guess that's a win?
Really great book on mass government surveillance. I loved reading from Snowden's perspective. I read this for a final paper and was really glad that I was able to get through it in an afternoon (time is scarce during finals!)
I finished school last week & am working on getting my holiday TBR together (spent a few days binging Netflix & finishing knitting my niece's blanket for Christmas! 🧶)
A bit of a change from Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell! Reading this and Mindf*ck by Christopher Wylie this week for my Sociology final paper on whistleblowing. Featuring one of my favourite mugs ☕
How many more tea/cat photo combinations will it take before I finish this book?
Almost past the hump of midterms which will just push me into the wave that is finals, but I think I'll have time to read (for fun) this week, which will be a nice change. Also on the agenda this week: Christmas shopping! 🎄🎅
It's reading week at school, which means no classes! Since I don't work today, I thought I would have a reading-for-fun day before I tackle my reading-for-school list, which is a mile long 🙃
I'm at page 232 of this monster and... nothing has really happened yet? Hoping it picks up soon. Still love the atmosphere and setting in the book even if it isn't the most exciting plot-wise
I had great intentions of taking pretty book pictures with the apple crumble we made this weekend, but then it disappeared.. enjoy this photo of my brownie instead 🙃
I cannot express enough how ready I am for this weekend! Had a big conference yesterday which drained me for the rest of the week 😴 The week is almost over which means it's almost time to go apple picking 🍎
Really enjoying this book and happy with how my reading is progressing. The atmosphere is perfect for fall 🍂
This is going to be a VERY busy but rewarding semester, I can already tell! I've made a goal to read for 30 minutes every night. I know there will be days that this isn't doable, or when I'll fall asleep from exhaustion (I see you, midterms) but I'm going to try my best!
It's a rainy fall day here in Ottawa. All booked!
Sundays are a slow work day for me so I'm hoping to spend all day reading 🍂📚
Meh. Took me a lot longer to get through this because I kept getting pulled out of the story. The characterization of Rose was so jarring- definitely written by a man in the 1930s! I wish there was more description of the surroundings because there was so so much potential. Also, the ending was just.. huh? It wasn't awful, but I found myself not really caring about the plot or the characters
Hoping to get this one done this week before classes start again! 🎒
Tonight's reading partner 🥰
We adopted Miss Bella in May and she is truly the best reading buddy. She's 12 years old and was in her foster home for months - no one wanted to take on a senior with dietary restrictions. But how could I say no to that face!
Still working through A Conjuring of Light, but I think I'll be finishing it up soon!

Took a few days off to try and make this book last a bit longer ❤
I'm easing back into the reading-for-fun world altogether because for the past three years I've been focusing on my studies, which have been extremely rewarding in their own way. These next few weeks I'm taking a break to just enjoy reading for fun. Re-entering the bookish world has brought me a joy that has been missing for the past three years while I've been in school.
This series is so good! Which always leaves me wondering, why didn't I pick it up sooner?!

Trying to read more #IndigenousLit this summer. Any recomendations?

Time to relaaaaax and finally read (for fun) now that exams are basically over!

Very interesting so far. Always important to listen to all voices & stories.
Let down by this mediocre book. At first I thought that maybe I would have liked it if i had read it ten years ago, when I was a kid, but after further thought I don't think I would have. Everything fell flat for me - the plot, setting, characters were shallow at best. I almost didn't finish; definite pass on the rest of the series 😶
Surprised at the amount of dislike over this book! It's a cute contemporary; while the writing style wasn't stellar and there were some contradictions (did Dimple bring makeup to the Con or not? It's bugging me), it was still a fun, light summer read!
Meh. Not very cohesive but well researched
Loved this series in grade 5, still love it 8 years later
200 pages in and this book is.. okay. But that's about it. Just meh. Trying to power through and finish.
My heart feels achy. I loved this so so so much.
I didn't love Ari until the last few chapters, but it worked out well. Instant fave.
This was brilliant. I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud; my heart is fuzzy and full. It was beautiful in every way.
I've had a good reading day (featuring Charlie the bed bug). Finished 2 poetry books and a short novel before diving into Simon. I'm only 20 pages in and it's witty and charming.
Finally finished this monster! Starting first year of university was a kick in the butt and i had zero time to read for fun. But, I made it!
A Dance with Dragons was beautiful. True to his style, Martin kept it interesting with points of views from characters we hadn't seen before. It was slow going in the middle, but the last 200 pages or so picked up, like usual. Can't wait for Winds of Winter!
I appreciate what Martin did with this volume: writing the whole story for the secondary characters instead of half of the story for all of the characters. That being said, if you're only invested in the big players, this novel will disappoint. While I thoroughly enjoyed the politics in this book, I did miss the main characters. Makes me excited for the next one!
This book is much slower than the others, but it means I'm almost to the end of the series! feat. my sleepy kitty
