This great NF would be a perfect story to read around 9/11. It goes through the great adventure of how a guy named Philippe and his adventure of walking between the towers. I would definitely use this in my classroom for a great read aloud! Below is a link that I would use for my classroom: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hXyJ-7KLMdM #UCFLAE3414sp17

AnastasiaH This is a great read aloud! Since our younger students might not be familiar with the events of 9/11, it will be important for us to be prepared when the questions come flooding in. 8y
DrSpalding This biography is worthy of sharing and of course visually appealing as it won the Caldecott award. 8y
LaurenMcl I have not read this yet, but it looks like a book that is a must for my future classroom library. 8y

Dr. Seuss is an amazing children's author who really knows how to incorporate great messages into his Fantasy books. In this particular book, the message is that you shouldn't be too nice to some people because they can just walk all over you! Below is a link to Seuss website: http://m.seussville.com/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

JRQuintanilla I love the Seuss website. Can never go wrong with children reading the classics! 8y
DrSpalding I agree with JR. You can't go wrong. 8y

Turtle in Paradise | Jennifer L. Holm
post image
Pickpick

Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer Holm is a Newberry Honor Book and HF that I fell in love with! In 1935, during the Depression times are hard but Turtle is sent off to Key West to live with her Aunt and cousins. She expects nothing and ends up finding out what the true meaning of having a happy ever after really is. Below is a link to Holm's scholastic: https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/books/turtle-in-paradise-by-jennifer-l-holm/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding I am thrilled you read the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you haven't heard of The Little Rascals, an old TV show, this book and it's characters -the Diaper Gang- reminds me so much of this. This is a perfect LC choice for fourth grade being that it is set during the Great Depression in Key West. Well done! 8y
