Man, I hate giving up on a book. Especially one written by an author I‘ve really enjoyed before.

Had to give up on this one. Implausible storyline + too many nods to dear old dad's opus "The Stand". Write well & grow your own fanbase, Joe.

A little formulaic, but the story of the Rossignol sisters in WW2 France was moving & captivating.

Is it the story of an obsessed writer? A murderer? A teenager with a secret? A cult? A haunting?

It was all of the above & more than that. Too much more, and at least 100 pages too long.

This one sat on my to-read list a long time but sadly was a big letdown.

I like it, didn't love it.

Third time reading this dark gem.

53 pages in and I'm on the edge of my seat.......

As a Detroit Pistons fan from way back in the day, this made me smile:

"I am supposed to be on vacation. I should be lying on the beach right now, facing the Mediterranean Sea. My toes would be curled into the sugar-white sand and I'd be getting the best tan in years. Woke up an hour ago while it was storming, scared & angry after getting fired by my biggest client yesterday. The storm has stopped but I can't fall back to sleep. I guess I'll just do some not-so-light reading instead.

Ok I've moved on to Chapter 2 and... The author won me over with this... I mean, how many Midwestern novels about food are gonna quote one of my all time favorite songs? #tomwaits

77 pages in to a delightfully promising start to this story and, likely, a young author's career

I don't often have the opportunity to use the word "chuckle" during a book review. Light, frothy, very snarky. The last couple stories weren't as endearing as those that came before but this was a delightful read.

I felt like I was reading an Atwood book that could have been written 30 years ago, after "The Handmaids Tale" only inferior. I would say I enjoyed this okay, had this been written by a new author. Not someone with the depth and experience of Margaret Atwood.
