pickWhy have I waited so long to read this? Jeff VanderMeer is a true master and "Annihilation" is as moody, strange and scary as it is mesmerizing, hypnotic and utterly beautiful.
panDespite being a fast-paced read - the short chapters help - it could be so much better if it didn't try so hard. And if it actually had any literary value.

pickVery competent, entertaining and extremely readable book. Krysten Ritter has the writting chops of a seasoned thriller/mystery writer and knows how to spin an engrossing yarn.

panOh my, oh my, am I really writing an unfavourable review as my first ever Litsy post? Sadly, yes... I truly wanted to love this father-son effort, but I simply couldn't. The premise is okay and there's potential - the Kings are a talented family. But I could not feel empathy towards the characters and read this mammoth of a book in a permanent state of disconnect. Well, the good thing is there are plenty of King novels to make up for it!
