The Story of Truluv Moses | Elizabeth Berg
post image

Have read Elizabeth Berg novels over the years and have found them hit or miss. Hoping for a hit, been in a rut. Usually a mystery/thriller reader but have t had much luck. Last book I loved was BEFORE WE WERE YOURS by Lisa Wingate so I'm trying another non-mystery thriller novel.

Mehso-so

Good enough. Not my usual genre; first Elin Hilderbrand book. Light read as I suspect it is supposed to be. Loved the references to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Location is what drew me to the book and it did not disappoint. If you're looking for a light beach read; this is the book.

EmG So-so for me too. I've read and enjoyed her before. Really disliked ending, felt tacked-on, rushed. Characters that she spent time developing dropped and ones she roughly sketched drop out sky to wrap things up. In its own, meh. As one of this authors' books, pretty disappointing. 7y

Summer read - not my usual genre but have been in a rut so decided to give it a try. Halfway through; easy read, enjoyable enough but not breaking my cycle of so so books.

Reviewsbylola I considered getting this from BOTM but decided to go the library route instead. 7y

Pickpick

WHEN WE WERE YOURS by Lisa Wingate is without a doubt one of the best books I read this year. I was totally engrossed from the first page to the last and will surely be checking out more books by this author.

This novel is based on a true story of the Tennessee Children‘s Home Society in the late 1930‘s. The story is done in alternating points of view and is done so well it is never confusing; both points of view are equally captivating.

In a reading rut; last two books I picked up didn't hold my attention, I put them aside for another time. Hoping third times a charm!

I was anxious to start my first Lisa Scottoline book; and I am struggling, the genre is right but the story is not sucking me in. Really having trouble caring about the characters.

Trina_L Yes I am struggling too! I've read several Lisa books, they're always a hit or miss for me.... 7y
Maggie0557 Finished ONE PERFECT LIE; never connected with the story or the characters. I will try another Lisa Scottoline book in the future and hopefully like it better. 7y

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️A beautiful, tragic story of coming of age in the worst way; poor, lonely, addicted, dysfunction. There are no hearts and flowers in this book but there is something beautiful amongst the angst.

Mehso-so

Started out great, halfway in I felt it became extremely repetitive. I found myself skimming pages to get to the heart of the story. Also never felt invested in any of the characters. The story has been told before; not many surprises for me.

Justacatandabook Definitely agree! 7y

A chapter or two in feeling like it was a great choice after a few epic historical fiction books and an intense crime thriller. Funny without trying too hard....so far, so good

Skeebies05 I liked it for just that reason: a nice break. 7y

A little less than halfway through but enjoying the writing style and story. Perhaps I need to investigate more Brad Parks novels. Will review when I finish.

Maggie0557 Finished - intense! A solid crime thriller; occasionally difficult to read but I frequently found myself anxious to get back to this book to see what was going on! 7y
