I always feel weird when men write female characters exploring their sexuality and other intimately-female life experiences, but I have to admit he did a good job.

Book Swap spoils from yesterday afternoon‘s walk home. The top one is for my niece Lila, who thinks she has just about read every Enid Blyton book there is and that‘s saying something!
Did not disappoint! Suburbian but feels eventful, and the characters kept me interested and invested. It did have a bit of a closure moment at the end, but it also makes you think that the characters learned from these experiences and their life will go on. Which is kinda nice.
Ok here's my retry at this post for #LMPBC #GroupX

Mrs. Fletcher and We Sold Our Souls have Gen X main characters. Forrest Gump was a huge movie, and I've heard the novel is a bit different than the film? What do y'all think?
I randomly found the mini series based on this book. I knew the author Tom Perrota from one of my favorite show The Leftovers. Basically the story of single mother Eve and her son Brendan‘s first year of college. The book gives us Brendan‘s POV. The TV show is much more sexually explicit. I liked both versions.
An enjoyable romp from Perrotta! A son flailing in school, makes poor choices while his mom begins to open her life to new friends, including a trans professor and a bi coworker. There‘s learning and adjustment on both sides, as the son moves home after one semester. The ending is a bit rushed. 4⭐️
The main narrators (mother and son) are pretty good, but the secondary ones are subpar in this full-cast recording. Probably go print.
Finished my #doublespin this morning before getting out of bed. As usual for Perrotta, I enjoyed the characters and relationships. Unlike my favorite title of his (Little Children) I felt less connected to this group. Also, some aspects of the story felt like unnecessary attempts to be controversial; a trans character, genital mutilation, police brutality, etc, just seemed like he threw a lot on the wall to see what stuck.

Set up my August #bookspinbingo board. It was a task! Any recommendations on how to get the full cover to fit? Suggestion on apps to make boards?
Now that it's done, I think I'll get started on my #doublespin Mrs. Fletcher. I see a very attainable bingo with it.

Eve Fletcher is trying to adapt to her new identity as a single empty-nester. She is the nucleus of the dysfunctional (yet trying very hard to function) group of sometimes relatable, sometimes not at all relatable, characters in this novel. It's a pretty simple plot, yet it was completely engrossing. I really enjoyed it.
My one issue: Why would one write a novel from the perspective of many characters from the 3rd person, but only one in 1st? 🤔
Pet peeve: when there are many characters in a novel and each character‘s perspective is told in the third person—except one, who is first-person. Why? WHY?? So unnecessary. (Otherwise, I like this one pretty well.)
bought this a few minutes ago for a quick read between meetings. anyone read this? never heard of it or the series BUT i love this actress 😍 #mrsfletcher

Eve Fletcher is 46, divorced and a newly empty nester. She‘s discovering there‘s a lot of pleasure to be had, if one chooses to #ExpressYourself This book was a little naughty and some parts felt disingenuous but still a fun read tackling some heavy topics.
I really enjoy reading this author. While this is not as strong as his other books, I found it to be a pretty enjoyable read. 3.5 stars up to 4, just because he‘s not afraid to get into some icky subjects.
This book was all over the place with so many themes - ageism, gender fluidity, consent, internet consumption, and sexual orientation. Perrotta clearly wanted to say a lot within such a short book that a lot of it felt inauthentic to me. I‘m still looking forward to HBO‘s series, though, to see all the awkwardness play out on screen!
A book about the empty nester: Eve, a divorcee, needs to reinvent herself and her life after her only son leaves for college. Her first escape is the internet, where she Googles the word MILF and discovers a whole new, porn-based world. Luckily there‘s more to the book than that.
I liked the way Perrotta handles some of today‘s taboos but he should have made Eve a man - I really couldn‘t connect to her as a woman.

#MarchIntoThe70s Mrs. Fletcher is the new, 2019 #MrsRobinson 😜🎶💋and HBO is adapting the book into a TV series staring Kathryn Hahn. I personally disliked this book but many Littens thought it was funny & insightful. I thought Eve Fletcher felt like a character written by a man ( which she was) when instead I was hoping for Eve to feel like a real woman.
I really liked this. We meet divorced, middle aged, Eve as she drops off her son, Brendan, at college. She gets a text in the middle of the night saying she‘s a MILF. We follow Eve and Brendan as they try to figure themselves out in their different worlds. Perrotta throws a lot out there. My only problem was that for all the talk of sex and porn in here, the climax I had been expecting didn‘t happen. Other than that, an entertaining read.
I‘m a sucker for these paragraphs.
Really good read. Touched on lots of modern issues; gender identity, consent, internet porn, loneliness, among others. Very well handled, just fizzled out a bit at the end when everything came together a bit too nicely. Satisfying, but I would have preferred a big explosion.
Eve Fletcher navigates her empty nest syndrome and explores her sexuality. Eve's son Brendan is an absolute turd, getting drunk at college and treating girls like objects. Stuff happens, people change or don't change. Shrug. Some funny moments and I will explore more of Perrotta's work, but I was left feeling kind of unhappy and unsatisfied. ⬇️
I‘ve enjoyed many of Tom Perrotta‘s novels about the seedy underbelly of American suburbs. This story made me want to wash my hands by the end. Unlikable characters make all kinds of bad choices but the writing pulls you along to the conclusion.
Eve Fletcher is dropping off her only child, Brendan, at college. She has singlehandedly packed the car and set up his room, only to be quickly dumped for her son‘s new BFF and roommate. She realizes that it is time to start a new chapter and take care of herself! While I liked Eve, I did not enjoy her sexual exploits. Topics include lots of porn, transgender life, feminism, autism, geriatrics. While I did laugh at times, I kind of felt dirty. 🙁
A light hearted book that goes pretty in depth with information about genders and sexuality. I enjoyed the end of the book mostly.
It's college drop off season. For a completely spot on contemporary domestic tale of divorcee Eve and her freshman son's drama, check out Mrs. Fletcher. The near misses and courageous moments are like living inside the lives of your "normal hometown neighbors" in suburban America in the social media era.
I thought this book would cute and fun. It wasn‘t. It was odd and bizarre. There were also waaaay too many minor characters and story lines that didn‘t have much to do with anything... I was so confused.
Just left the Library with my new car “read”!
#blameitonlitsy
A novel about female sexuality, written by a man... is about as one-dimensional as you would expect.
In the porn world, no one seemed have heard of sexual harassment.

😅 🤣 LOL 🤣😂
"They are who they are," Eve agreed. "All we can do is love them."
I have two sons and I can so relate to Eve's motherly worries!
Well, that was entertaining! A fun mix of characters with just enough brutal honesty to make them feel like folks you might know. Perrotta scratches the surface on several aspects of sexuality and society; exploration and acceptance. He is a new-to-me author and I can‘t wait to read more!
#Mammamia! Eve Fletcher is a 46 yr old divorcee and empty nester with a mundane life, until one night she received a text from an unknown number saying “U R my MILF”... and everything changes. This book is light, fun, and entertaining, but also analyzes so many modern taboos.

I‘m loving this book so far!

Had a long drive by myself today and gave this a listen. I‘ll finish it up by the end of the week on the trips to drop off my son at his summer classes. It‘s a bit odd but I‘m enjoying the cast of characters.
Last night‘s dinner of pork katsu, cabbage and vegetable soup was given the highest praise by the 5yo: “I love everything you cooked today mummy!”
I contemplated the raising of two young boys as I read this book later in bed, a book with a young man in college. A not very nice young man who has done some not very nice things and does not treat women, even those he likes, well. I cannot help but think of Terrace House: Opening New Doors (more👇)
So my hold for this library ebook came in and I thought, ok I‘m just going to read a few pages and see how it goes. It‘s been a while since I‘ve read Perrotta‘s work. I already have several books going so I really didn‘t need to be starting a new one. But by the time I put the ereader down to go to sleep I was a third through. Are you a “ooh a new book I must start reading it, ignoring the other books I‘m already reading” kind of reader?
What a fun read, I enjoyed this book about a woman sort of finding herself again or discovering her new self after divorce and her son leaving the nest!!
I used to be so self-conscious about going to a bar or restaurant, ordering a solitary beer and whipping out a book from one of my bottomless handbags. SO glad I've finally reached the stage where I couldn't give a damn anymore. Here's to the best company a girl could ask for!
This week's TBR list. Already started Mrs. Fletcher and it is awesome.

I liked this book. I'd give it about ⭐⭐⭐ bc while I liked Eve, her son was a bit whiny and a womanizer also his storyline seem rather forced. Amanda's role was necessary but cut rather short. I think Julian was my favorite as well as Margot and her boyfriend. All in all it wasn't a total loss and the dialogue was pretty good. I'd recommend it but I wouldn't expect too much.
So this didn‘t blow my mind, but it was a fun, easy read (listen) and I did chuckle out loud a few times.
Perrotta has always been an author that I love. He has such a genuine way of capturing the minutiae of modern life in a way that feels effortless. I was so anxious to read Mrs Fletcher when it was released and it did not disappoint. The decisions the characters make were cringe worthy, but I loved every second of it. Image shamelessly stolen from author‘s website. 😂🙈 #4newfavsin4days #4newfavesin4days
This book was very entertaining! Eve is divorced and her son just went off to college. One night when she‘s home alone, she gets a MILF text resulting in Eve‘s newest obsession - porn! The book explores parenthood, sexuality, identity, and the mistakes we sometimes make.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ A good enough book to check out from the library, but I don‘t feel a need to read this again, so I won‘t be hurrying out to buy my own copy. I liked some parts, but others seemed very unrealistic, and some actually made me a bit uncomfortable. Overall, Mrs. Fletcher was just very “meh” to me.
Like the porn was to Mrs Fletcher, this book was pretty addictive! and the snowy cold day was the perfect excuse to finish it today!
