My lunch is always comprised of a cluttered desk, packed lunch (Paella today!), and some good read! Got some good words of wisdom from this one here, I just had to share it: "It's probably not going to happen (my dream), but I should do things that keep me moving in the right direction, just in case-and I should be sure those things interest me, so that whatever happens, I'm happy" ~Chris Hadfield

Been trying to adjust to reading books electronically since hubby's already complaining of the lack of space and dust mites allergies. *sigh* 😔 Anyhow, Madd Addam's trilogy is up for our next month's book club meeting.. 🤓📚🍷

ReadingEnvy I loved this one in a book club. So much to talk about! 8y
Nerdy_chic We're also going to try to incorporate some thoughts on the Handmaid's tale. Everyone was all hyped for the upcoming series, so we all eagerly voted for a Margaret Atwood discussion for April! So excited. It's so good to find a good book club here in Mexico City where English is not spoken widely by the locals. 8y
DogMomIrene I just finished listening to The Handmaid's Tale on the podcast Secrets, Crimes, and Audiotape. Loved it. They published the six episodes back in January. Might make for interesting conversation as well. I can't wait to compare/contrast with book and series with friends here🙂 8y
Nerdy_chic Oooh! I'll check them out @ocdIrene! Thanks! 8y

RealBooks4ever Such a lovely cover! I was surprised to see how small the book is in real life. 😄 8y
Nerdy_chic @RealBooks4ever yes! I expected it to be bigger and thicker since it's a hardcover, Oh well, it's the content that counts 😉 8y

Took this out randomly from our office bookshelf so crossing my fingers it'll be a delicious read! Looking foward to some culinary inspirations for this week's dinners too. What are you guys cooking these nights? 🍲🍛🍴

2:40 pm Finally got out of bed, still in PJs though, prepped some homemade tacos de alambre, a bit of wine, and starting Blake Crouch's Dark Matter for Monday's book club meeting. #weekend 😀🍷🌮📚

Saturday means closed curtains, in PJs all day and splurging on some pending Kindle reads... including one for my first book club meeting here in Mexico on Monday (Dark Matter by Blake Crouch). But first, Pachinko's been on queue for a while so better not keep it on hold any longer.. Have a great weekend everyone!

Working as a nurse before, I've had several encounters with cadavers, doing post mortem care when patients die. And as they wheel away the gurney carrying the covered body, I'm always overwhelmed with questions: So what's gonna happen to her? Will she have lots of people crying for her? Did she have a good life at least? What will happen to her loved ones now? Death is not something scary for me, but my unanswered questions always haunted me...

Wish our holiday could have been extended a bit more... Had Monday off yesterday due to Benito Juarez's Memorial day in Mexico. He was a former president, and a national hero known for making reforms to create a democratic federal republic. Today's read is quite fitting, speaking of men of unique character...

Based on a true story, the author, Hyeonseo Lee is a North Korean defector who tells her story on how she escaped North Korea and later guided her family to freedom through China and Laos. Beautiful narrative and gives you a glimpse of what's it like to live in the Hermit Kingdom.

asiriusreader This was such a great book. Loved the writing and was so engaged by her story. 8y
Nerdy_chic @asiriusreader Everytime I remember her story, I still can't believe that such a place and kind of life exist. It's so surreal, like her real life was actually fiction. 8y
asiriusreader @Nerdy_chic yes!!! Completely agree. I had to remind myself as I was reading that it was a memoir and not a crazy alternate universe or dystopian novel of some sort. Scary that people still have to live like that in our world. 8y

This was my favorite when I was working in Saudi Arabia a few years back. Sale of this book was prohibited there, but a friend lent me his coverted copy, and I fell in love with the writer. Alaa Al Aswaany is a dentist turned activist from Cairo. This book tackles poverty, corruption, and gender inequality in Egypt, weaved into an extraordinary web of stories from the people in the Yacoubian building, which is actually a famous landmark in Egypt.

MrBook Nice review! 8y
