#currentread is a fascinating study on tyrants as observed by Shakespeare. It is sooo relevant in current times in US.

Read this if you like Kinsella‘s style. Not her best work, this one. I did laugh at many bits and those were the best parts. The romantic bits were genuinely quite funny. The plot resolved way too fast for me and the transformation of the lead character felt abrupt and unjustified.
I recently realized that despite buying this book two yrs ago I never read it!! Well, that is fixed now. Not a new story now, but I am always glad to learn about the heroines of WW2. The writing was clunky sometimes and there were jumps in time and events that remained unjustified. But the character dev was good and the ending really was perfect. Moved me to tears many times, especially when little Ari was taken. All in all, good read!
#currentaudioread ... Entertained but also bored. It is a good book for when you have a headache but you still want to listen to a story.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1930s Munich agreement is the backdrop for two old friends to play some spy games defending their ideals. Character development - beautifully done for the lead. But the details on the German side of the story seemed lacking to me. I loved the restraint the author exercised when describing those high tension moments. Perfectly done. The book ends on the brink of war and the two friends are left with their decided paths for the war to come.
I read a lot of spy stories. This one had women spies and the women actually brave and twisted! A must read if you like spy tales.
“Your children see!” “We see! We fucking see!”
What an explosive twist to this story - very satisfactory!
“Oh calamity!” I just learnt who the class bully is and I was surprised!! Woo hoo!! This character was on my list of possible bullies but wasn‘t talked about enough in the book up to this point.
This is not a memoir, the author notes in the prologue. This collection of life stories from Nayyar‘s life is really written to give a peak into his personal life to fans of the Big Bang Theory show and perhaps even his fans too. There is no overarching story arc here, many stories seem disparate.
In short, read this if you are already a fan. Narration was good but the writing could be better.
A perfect fantasy story for preteens. The characters are well drawn and they tug at your hearts. The villain was not unexpected but nonetheless well done. I was completely charmed by the “magical” characters! The little-enormous dragon, the magical-crazy mother, the bog monster - it was all so delightful!
Read this oldie for my Christie book club‘s May pick. It was classic Christie but felt very dated for a spy novel. The villain was hardly scary and the intrigue predictable and somewhat child-like. I really am a Christie fan! But her plots have never impressed me much. Without interesting characters this book left me wanting to be done with it quickly. The audiobook narration was superb though. So give it a listen for a quick and easy read.
Reading this huge book on Romanovs currently and I have to pause often to deal with the violence and cruelty! People complain about torture shown in Game of Thrones. They should read real history to gain some perspective on the real human condition. I often justify the past cruelty by telling myself that those were diff times. But then I remember Syria of today and it horrifies me.
Such a delightful story! I am only 2h into the book and I am charmed by it already.
I have been making my way through The Accursed Kings series and it is pretty spectacular. It being mostly factual makes it more powerful. ✨
