My memories of him, though few, are mostly pleasant, but memories of people you hardly know are often permitted a kind of pleasantness in their absence. It's those who stay who are judged the harshest, simply by virtue of being around to be judged.

pickI was so drawn in by the cover and the idea behind this book. However, it took me forever to finish. I wasn't as drawn in as I would have hoped, but I enjoyed the story and background. I will say about halfway through the book I had accurately guessed the ending. This book gives you a funny glimpse of the admissions process for prominent schools and the how race and diversity plays a part in the process.
pickI had no idea about the history Jeju island, the haenyeo, women-led societies, or the author Lisa See. I was introduced to this book through the ravings of a booktuber and decide to purchase it on a whim.
I took awhile to finish this book due to the tragedies discussed throughout but in the end it was a beautiful story of friendship and forgiveness. Lisa See did a great job building this world. I found myself getting swept up.
Just finished this book and I must say the prose was beautiful from start to finish. 😍
