It was really fun to dive into something I didn't choose. This novel is short, sweet, sometimes sad, and really just a treat. Serle's prose is so easily read and her characters radiate detail and personality. (Serle's style reminded me of the YA author Sarah Dessen, whose books I used to consume vociferously as a teen.) Would reccomend if you're looking for some easy, enjoyable, but not too fluffy pandemic reading! ♥️⁣

'm really not sure what it was about this one, but I had such a challenging time getting through it. The beginning felt so slow, and I had trouble keeping the characters sorted. I enjoyed the final third of the book quite a bit! Setterfield does a fine job wrapping up the tangled web she'a woven at the beginning of the novel -- I just wish the first parts had been a little more engrossing.⁣ 😔

The is one of my top five favorite books of all time, and this was probably the 7th or 8th time rereading it. Diamant has taken a barely mentioned biblical figure, Dinah daughter of Jacob, and brought her vividly to life on the page. Not only that, but she's illuminated the world of women in a complex and realistic way. I'm already looking forward to the next rereading. ⁣

As in her other book The Night Circus, this author has created a fantastical and completely original reality. The Starless Sea was a slower start for me than the Night Circus, but worth the work once the plot picked up pace. I most appreciate that Morgenstern's novels bend the construct of "reality" and aren't predictable. Plus this one featured many cat cameos. ?⁣

Not usually a fan of short story/vingette type fiction, but this book kept showing up as a recommendation from trusted sources. My main takeaway, man can this girl write! Florida is lush and evocative and entirely unique, and hits home for anyone - native or transplant - who has a little piece of this wacky state in their heart. I flew through it and ordered one of her other books as soon as I finished this one.⁣

You absolutely know someone who has read this book and already recommended it to you, but I'm going to join the chorus anyway! Bonus, the audio version which includes audio clips & music. The subject matter is fascinating and relevant to all of us and factual without being dry or boring. Plus, Gladwell's sunny voice makes even the heaviest moments & facts seem like realities that we absolutely can address as a species.

Finally digging into this after having it on the kindle for over a year. So far it‘s an engrossing (if elementarily written) read!

Still trying to decide if this was one of the best or worst books I've read recently, and while I'm not ready to recommend it to a friend, I am glad I read it. The style of this novel is singular and the story is littered with pretty turns of phrase. The characters and chapter titles are whimsical within a fully realized world.

While no shortage of opinions on this book exists, I found it to be a compelling and emotional read. This novel, while certainly not for every reader, is filled with interesting characters, lush imagery, and provocative themes. Personally I'm glad I stuck with this through the conclusion. Those looking for a lighthearted, fun read or who might be triggered by depictions of an abusive parent-child relationship should pass over this one.

Always a fan of P.G.‘s novels, but this is one of the first ones that introduced me to a woman of Tudor English royalty for ostensibly the first time! This one left me both craving more information about the historical woman and feeling a bit flustered that i hadn‘t already known more. The novel ends a bit earlier in the historical timeline than I would have guessed it would, so a little of the conclusion doesn‘t feel quite as neat as usual.

Picked this up at the airport because of the lovely cover and NY Times Bestseller brag. Only a handful of pages in, but super interested to see how it goes after reading some of the online criticism. Also definitely not going to be a lovely read in terms of subject matter. 😣

Found on the clearance rack and selected because the dust jacket was bold and enticing. Actually ended up enjoying this one quite a bit. Tasteful blending of the supernatural with the complexities of a splintered family.

A really enjoyable read -- excellently written with vivid imagery and independent story threads that tie neatly together near the end of the novel.

Hurricane Irma knocked out the power and left most of the city under a curfew all day, so I'm drinking all the white wine and diving into one of my favorite author's latest novels!

Everyone should read this insightful, moving, well-crafted book. Ron Suskind draws readers intimately into the struggles and triumphs of his family's life with an autistic son. Life, Animated leaves readers with a fresh perspective on a myriad of subjects from Autism to Disney to what it means to be family.

Fucking hilarious. This book had me laughing out loud, literally. Great writing, witty protagonist, and a vivid world all coalesce into a wholly enjoyable novel that maintains great balance throughout. Definitely recommend this humorous romp.

Really interesting and unusual premise. Slow to get going, and the novel takes a bit to fit the various pieces together. The ending is a bit hurried -- too many loose ends inelegantly tied off -- but overall an interesting read.

Remember the last time you devoured a book in a day? I do. That day was today, and the book was Roanoke Girls. This is a spine tingling, twisting, turning novel of complex characters with the feel of a thriller. I love a book that can keep me guessing (and guessing incorrectly) right up until the last page. Amy Engel's novel is a smooth read littered with exceptional turns of phrase. Can't wait to see the next book from this author!

Definitely an interesting read. Fell in love with the cover design/art initially and enjoyed the book, but it wasn't what I expected!

Enjoyed this even just as much as, perhaps even more than, The Girl on the Train. Winding, tangled intrigue that keeps you guessing and constantly trying to stay ahead of the next twist.
