Three Sisters, Three Queens | Philippa Gregory

There is only one bond that I trust: between a woman and her sisters. We never take our eyes off each other. In love and in rivalry, we always think of each other. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author behind the upcoming Starz original series The White Princess, a gripping new Tudor story featuring King Henry VIIIs sisters Mary and Margaret, along with Katherine of Aragon, vividly revealing the pivotal roles the three queens played in Henry VIIIs kingdom. When Katherine of Aragon is brought to the Tudor court as a young bride, the oldest princess, Margaret, takes her measure. With one look, each knows the other for a rival, an ally, a pawn, destinedwith Margarets younger sister Maryto a sisterhood unique in all the world. The three sisters will become the queens of England, Scotland, and France. United by family loyalties and affections, the three queens find themselves set against each other. Katherine commands an army against Margaret and kills her husband James IV of Scotland. But Margarets boy becomes heir to the Tudor throne when Katherine loses her son. Mary steals the widowed Margarets proposed husband, but when Mary is widowed it is her secret marriage for love that is the envy of the others. As they experience betrayals, dangers, loss, and passion, the three sisters find that the only constant in their perilous lives is their special bond, more powerful than any man, even a king.

Long time no post! I am working my way (still) through the Plantagenet series; I will say this one was really good. I will say the main character, Margaret was almost as annoying as her grandmother (the Red Queen). I am finally at The Other Boleyn Girl and I am so excited to read it. #reading #historicalfiction

How do you rule a country in a time when women weren't considered capable? How do you find love when women were married to further a families ambition? How do you stand up to the King of England when he's your brother and Henry VIII? Margaret Tudor must do all this and more. Loved the book!

No wonder it takes so long to get through this series! After the last book I thought I was going to get to the next step historically in the time period, why did I think that? It hasn‘t went like that so far so why now? No you see now we must take another look at some other things happening at the same time from other points of view or aspects, it feels almost like a pit stop in this journey through time 😆

BacklistReader I just finished this one and really enjoyed it. I do tend to read her stuff a little out of order so it stays interesting. 4y
Lauraandherbooks @BacklistReader I was going to jump onto a different one but I was afraid I wouldn‘t come back to this one, I‘m ready to get on to that Anne Boleyn! I really have a love/ hate feeling for her 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have other books on her so I definitely find her interesting 4y
BacklistReader @Lauraandherbooks I still need to read that one. I keep forgetting about it because it‘s on my kindle and I haven‘t been making my ebooks a priority. I should probably try to make a dent in those soon... 4y
Lauraandherbooks @BacklistReader I am starting it sometime today, I hope it is a good one; some of them are and others are a little dry and hard to get through 4y

Finish my book for chapter one of the #wintermagicalreadathon Tuesday. My prompt was to read a book on my existing TBR that was 500+ pages.

I really enjoyed this one. Philippa Gregory is one of my favorites and an auto buy author for me highly recommend you pick this one or another of her books up.

It‘s the winter cozy reading night in a few hours and I‘d like to make a good dent in this book. I‘ve got about 250 to pages left so I won‘t be finishing it but some noticeable progress would be nice.

I knew very little about Margaret Tudor and almost nothing of James IV prior to reading this book. I really want to learn more about James IV - he seemed like a particularly interesting man from his brief part in this narrative. Once again the author note and bibliography at the end are great and give me resources to satisfy my curiosity.

After my obsession with The White Princess, this read was necessary! I binged through this fictional account of little-understood queen Margaret Tudor with bated breath. While I felt like a already knew quite a lot about the Tudors, this book pointed out the gaps in my knowledge. I enjoyed the ride!

Always a fan of P.G.‘s novels, but this is one of the first ones that introduced me to a woman of Tudor English royalty for ostensibly the first time! This one left me both craving more information about the historical woman and feeling a bit flustered that i hadn‘t already known more. The novel ends a bit earlier in the historical timeline than I would have guessed it would, so a little of the conclusion doesn‘t feel quite as neat as usual.

One of the things I love about Philippa Gregory is that I feel right with her characters whom ever they are. I‘m listening to this one on audio book, and I‘m loving it. I‘m absolutely enthralled. I love how Margaret is growing and changing. It‘s so good. While I‘m listening, I‘m scrapping, my hobby. I‘ve not read a book while I crafted before. What a fool am I?!? I think I‘m hooked!

I adore Philippa Gregory and always have. Another wonderful book from her about important figures in history of whom very little is recorded. Because, of course, they're women. 🙄 Gregory always hits it out of the park, entwining fact and her interpretation of the characters to make great stories. This is about Henry VIII's sisters and his first wife. I recommend all of Gregory's Tudor stories!

I have always enjoyed Philippa Gregory novels. They are well researched without being overwhelmed with minute details. Three Sisters, Three Queens runs parallel to the Other Boleyn Girl and is told from the point of view of King Henry's sister Margaret Tudor in Scotland. This was my first Gregory on audio and I loved it. Always a sucker for a British accent.

Listened to this on audio, when your brother is Henry VIII things happen! Historical fiction that shows how queens and all women were just pawns in the royal pedigrees. This book really tries to show how women were never thought to be part of the royal ruling, they were just the baby makers and if it was a girl, well let's try again. Women, we have come a long way. Queen Elizabeth is a miracle!

I was a little antisocial at @LizzyM 's house today so I could finish this book before 2016 ended. It was my only bookish Christmas gift and not something I would have bought myself.
