Even a goldfish can dream of adventure... From his enviable view from a balcony on the 27th floor of an apartment block, Ian the Goldfish has frequent if fleeting desires for a more exciting life. Until one day, a series of unfortunate events give him an opportunity to escape... Our story begins, however, with the human inhabitants of Ians building. There is the handsome student, his girlfriend, and his mistress; an agoraphobic sex worker, the invisible caretaker; the pregnant woman on bed rest; and the home-schooled boy, Herman, who thinks he can travel through time. And as Ian tumbles perilously downwards, he will witness all their lives, loves, triumphs and disasters... A truly original, philosophically joyful and charming novel with the unlikeliest of heroes. This is Tales of the City as seen by a goldfish.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

This one is above a meh, but not a solid recommend.

The book is a series of vignettes we circle around, all of which take place over 1/2 hour in an apartment building. Some of the stories are interesting, others not.

Unfortunately, Ian, the fish didn't do much for the story. But he does realize he can only do so much, "and in the end, the rest is up to life and life takes care of" us "one way or the other."

? ?? ? ?? ? ?

tpixie Did you have the book? If so, fan the pages to see the fish fall! 6y
SandyW @tpixie Alas, I only really read e-books. 6y
TommieMarie74 I have this on my tbr! 6y

RaimeyGallant I can't discern a point either. 6y
SandyW @RaimeyGallant I thought the author was trying to showhow we're all interconnected. The point being, be compassionate? 6y
tpixie @SandyW well If you go to a bookstore check it out - it might be the best part of the book! 6y
SandyW @tpixie will do! 😀 6y

#mounttbrreadathon

It's 7pm here in California, so I've still got a few hours left in this weekend's MtTBRReadathon. Sometime in the near future, I'll be finishing The Runaway Wife, and then I plan on starting Fishbowl.

My husband is in disbelief that I'm going to make headway on book 3. We were even out socializing last night!

I've had this one on my list for awhile. I hope it lived up to my expectations! 🐠

It took so much self-control not to bring home more than three books from @Powells this weekend! But I did add about 20 books to my wish list. 📚 Can't to dive into #Fishbowl this week.

Prairiegirl_reading I figured out this book is pretty easy to skim if you read the chapter titles, a few sentences in each chapter then the last chapter is good. 7y
tpixie @Prairiegirl_reading yes- the titles are very descriptive! 7y
tpixie @Prairiegirl_reading thx for the tip! 7y
Prairiegirl_reading @tpixie I read this for book club too. I didn't love it at all but the discussion was very interesting. 😄 7y

While I love my Book Buddy from @MyBookZleeves , I'm not quite certain about my book. But I'm only on page 17, so hopefully it'll get better. It's for my in-person book club. I feel like I'm reading a book from a creative writing class assignment – lots of adjectives and metaphors.

rubyslippersreads Love the book sleeve! 7y

tpixie @EvieBee84 I will! I think once I sit down and read more it will become easier to read. The. Ok sounds like a great premise! 7y
tpixie @rubyslippersreads @EvieBee84 I don't think I could do the audio of this book. One great thing about the book itself is there is a picture of the little fish on the edge of each page- so if you quickly thumb through the pages you can see the fish as it's falling down! 7y
EvieBee That sounds super cute! I love little details like that in books! 7y
tpixie @EvieBee84 yes! I was tickled when I found it!! 7y

Interestingly found it in a children's book store and although far from a children's book would recommend it to anyone for an easy philosophical look at our world and human interactions.

Katie's sure there are other people in the world with her ability to fall in love. She sees her affliction as a good thing and refuses to become jaded by her many rejections. Her belief is that love doesn't make one weak; it does the opposite. She thinks that falling in love is her superpower.

30 minutes elapse over the course of the novel as a goldfish leaps from his bowl on the 27th floor and glimpses people in the apartments on his way down. Interconnections. Warm-hearted. Funny. #canadianauthor
