Overall a fairly good pop-psychology/philosophy book on how to determine your values and what matters to you in life. Wish he would have cited his research when stating sweeping generalizations.

Totally dug this story about Yale‘s secret occult societies. Alex Stern is a student trainee of 9th House, which monitors the other houses‘ occult activities. Her traumatic upbringing and ability to see ghosts prepares her well in investigating a campus homicide and underlying rampant corruption.

I liked the idea of this story, much more than the execution. A Boston history professor researching her family history, potential witchy abilities and a family curse: sounds awesome! But the story was too much of a slow burn and I found the protagonist unlikable and kind of dim. Lovely prose though

A tour de force expose on the lengths powerful men will go to silence women they have sexually assaulted. Farrow‘s Catch and Kill presents infuriating, disturbing, and powerful accounts of victims, whistleblowers and truth seekers. Likely the best book I‘ll read this year.

So the chosen one vanquishes the great evil, and “lives happily ever after.” But...do they really? How do they cope when this identity no loner defines them? Rowell‘s follow-up to Carry On deftly explores these themes, along with other young adult issues. Can‘t wait to read more of their adventures!

This book isn‘t bad; it‘s a mildly entertaining autobiographical account of one woman‘s dating woes. I guess I was expecting a well-researched sociological commentary on dating as a woman in the context of women‘s rights and the me-too movement. This book lightly touched on some of those themes, but not enough for me.

A bittersweet story that follows Franny, Jet and Vincent, siblings growing up in 1960‘s NYC who struggle with their identity as witches (each with specific powers). Additionally, their family carries a curse, dooming those who love them to ruin. Can they break the curse and be free to love? 4/5⭐️s

A wonderful and thoroughly engrossing account of the origin of HeLa cells, which have been used by most scientists to study cell development and functioning, as well as develop cures for many debilitating diseases. This book greatly humanizes science, yet does not sugar coat the ethical issues endemic to the field. Who “owns” human tissue and the resulting medicines developed from said biological specimens? A must read!
